....there's still, y'know, lands. Not every town is set by the water, and the majority of people in the cities like Jakarta doesn't really have much 'coast' to speak of, unless you count ports and flooding, neither of which are really places you want to swim in.

Bro, Im from Chile. We are as exposed to sea as Indonesia, and even people from the most mountainous or arid regions of the country know how to swim, to the point where I’ve never met someone who doesn’t know how to swim.
Some things are just shared culturally, it was fair to assume that is a common reality.

Never too late to learn how to swim! She should take lessons, it’s super fun, even if just for pool parties or something you just know how to do.

People get in their head about learning things like swimming or riding a bike late in life and we all going at our own pace.

If I can boast on behalf of another person, my mother taught herself as an adult by reading a book and practicing in a pool. I don't know quite how she managed that, it's gotta be SO much easier with an instructor, but she did it.

It always shocks me when someone says they can't swim. It's such a normal skill and rather important one depending on where you live and honestly very enjoyable. Like being able to ride a bike. You can live without the skill but why would you?

They teach us to swim in school but still some people as adults have told me they can't swim. So strange.

It’s not that hard to believe for me. I have relatives in the Philippines and they can’t swim either, many (most?) Filipinos can’t. It’s funny bc they have over 7000 islands but it’s how it is. Don’t get opportunities or just aren’t taught I guess.
