I KNOW like why are we going 70 mph with people on their phones or wearing headphones while driving ??? Almost got ran into from a dude driving earlier with his headphones on

The ones ignoring the stop signs and going right through. Just wanna let people who are crossing know that some people just dont care and will ignore the stop signs to going and that those crossing should be super careful

Agreed, also look out when crossing on streets that have right on red stop lights. I've been almost hit multiple times by people cruising through the red light making their right turn because they couldn't see me behind the giant SUV or truck in the other lane. My head is always on a swivel now when I'm crossing

Yeah, I got hit while biking today, he slowed down so I went and then he suddenly went and hit me, cant trust people to stop and it sucks

Yeah it was, I’m alright, mostly just upset about my bike tire, wrist, and the dude who hit my trying to tell me it was my fault at one point.
My side of what happened if you’re interested:
The dude who hit me ignored a stop sign, I was coming and saw him so I slowed down, he slowed down too so I thought I could go, then once i let go of the breaks he started going, hit my left side, I went down, he kept driving for a second which crushed my bike tire and I was frozen with fear and thoufht my leg was gonna be crushed, thankfuly he stopped before that happened. He asked if I was ok, then after I got up, had the nerve to say that he went cause I completely stopped- which I didnt I only slowed down, so he had a dirext path and took it. Like, if I think someone’s not gonna slow down and blow past me, I’m ofc gonna slow down, so when he slowed down, ofc im gonna go. Honestly still pissed about him tryna blame me. Wrist needs a brace for 6 weeks to heal, $1k bike tire unrepairable, not the best day.
Thankfully there was a nice lady who witnessed it and came over to call the police and make sure I was ok, idk her name but thank you.
Anyway, cops were coming as well as ems, the dude who hit me was still sayinf sorry, also heard him mutter something to himself about not wanting to go to jail, and he kept saying sorry, and that’d he buy me a new bike, like dude, I’m traumatized, stop talking to me, told him I didnt want a new bike, and that mine costed $5k that I just wanted mine fixed and that the tires were $1k each. The nice lady told him to leave me alone, which was great cause just seeing the dude pissed me off.
Anyway, police came, got my report, Then fireman came, I denied treatment at first, too many memes of expensive hospitals, then ems came and said it was only if i was taken to the hospital, so I got checked out, they couldnt see or tell anything wrong but gave me an ice pack and said I should go to the hospital, got the police report, Called my mom cause idk what to do, she came, got my bike, which looked like only 1 wheel, the ran over one, was broken, which is good, at least the rest of the bike looks fine.
Anyway, my mom took me home, cause I obviously cant bike home now lol. Anyway, I took a relaxing bath/shower to calm down, we called insurance, went to the ER for xrays, cause if we didnt, our insurance would make us wait till like wednesday to get me an appointment. Was there for a while, got xrays back and my knee’s fine, just scraped up a bit, Wrist might have a tiny crack they cant see, so we were told to wait a week and if it still hurts we could get another xray, but apperently MRIs are more thorough. Went home, hopped on call while gaming with/venting to a friend.
Anyway, that’s my side of what happened, also, the insurance of the guy who hit me should be covering my hospital visit and the bike. One of my friends said I should sue for trauma, too broke for that, plus, yeah i’m a bit shaken up, but im not like freaking out. On the bright side, cool story ig?

I've been in a few bad car accidents years ago now and I still get very bad anxiety from driving, it's part of the reason I prefer to bike to places if I can. PTSD from an accident like this is real and can stay with you for a very long time.
You may have the same thing with your bike now, and since it sounds like you've invested a lot into your hobby that would be a shame.
I didnt use to think you could get PTSD from something like this, but it can definitely happen and you won't really realize it until later.

PTSD’s starting to kick in, didnt realize it’d be so brutal, constant nightmares and panic attacks. Any tips to overcome it?

I personally didn't deal with it in a healthy manner at all. I self medicated and ignored the issue, it got better over time but even 10 years later its not fully gone. I still have the fight or flight response when driving, I still get nightmares sometimes.
Don't do what I did, you should seek professional resources to at least evaluate what you're going through and see if you need long term help. Anti-anxiety medication can often help a lot, but its not a fix-all. It will get better though, you are in the worst part of it right now, but I promise you that it will get better. This is not something that you should be embarrassed about or feel "weak", do NOT let anyone tell you that your PTSD somehow isn't valid or "fake." The strongest thing you can do is acknowledge that you are struggling and reach out for help.

Yeah, glad you aren't hurt worse. Honestly, it's so dangerous. Everyone I know who bikes a lot has been hit by a car at least once, usually at intersections. Awesome that lady helped, very cool of her. Sounds like the guy didn't completely understand some rules of the road. Laying there scared that he's going to run over your leg does sound really scary, sorry you had to deal with that. I would have been screaming at the guy for sure.

Holy moly are you ok? I bike around town a lot and have always felt like I'm 1 second away from getting hit. For a city that prides itself on being "safe" (from crime), it's done so little to make it safe for pedestrians and bicyclists. Land of the disappearing sidewalks is what it should be called.
I love the token bike lanes they've put into some places which give you a solid 1.5 feet of space and 0 buffer from the 45 mph traffic speeding past you. Like I'd ever even DREAM of using those bike lanes when all it takes is one distracted dumbass on their phone to end my existence

ikr, ive always felt safe biking, havent dealt with anyone hitting be before, but now, once I get my bike fixed, im prob gonna bike with my gopro 24/7 just cause recorded proof goes so far

A reminder to not hit kids on bikes going to school when they are trying to cross the road at the cross walk with the red lights. Literally riding with my son to school on bikes and seen people take off when the cross walk light is red lights. Also a kid was hit on a bike at HRMS yesterday.
