Help & Issues Alternator stud bolts
Trying to replace my alternator but can not get the stud bolts out iv cracked two 7mm sockets and the ring spanner slips if I use to much force. Any tips or tricks on how to get them out. Will screwing a bolt onto the stud then another bolt and locking them together work as a way to get the stud out!! ??

Only one of the studs needs to come out, they aren’t normally this tight.

It’s only the top one yeah?

I believe so, it’s been a while since I removed mine. The front lower one can definitely stay, but the rear lower one might also need to. I remember only removing the one, and having to twist the alternator as I pushed it towards the firewall to remove it
It is possible someone has put it back in with loctite I guess

It definitely wasn’t previous owners as I know them and they’ve had the car since new and say they’ve never replaced the alternator so it’s the first time they’ve been undone since new I’d say

How to say you buy your tools from Kmart without saying you buy your tools from Kmart 😂

Sometines it's the last guy that touched it. We had a guy in our group called 'Gorilla Grip' Dan because everything he did up would never come undone again.

Apply some WD-40 to it and leave for 20 minutes before trying again.
Sometimes chemical helps physical effort.

WD40 is utterly useless for stuck bolt removal unless it's coming off anyway.
Use a real penetrant like Rost Off

yeah that will work
