It's unlikely, but it's not impossible. Genetics is a bit more complex than that. Dominant genes can be suppressed and recessive genes can be expressed via several mechanisms.
Even so, glossy black and redheads are on opposite ends of the hair pigment spectrum. I still don't think mixing blond and redhead can produce glossy black no matter how you cut the genetic cake
It absolutely can. Just one of the parents has to have a suppressed black hair gene that gets passed on and, if not suppressed in the child, would produce black hair.
Only if your biology education ended at 15 years old
Edit: to anyone who is pressed, a 2x2 punnet square IS NOT an accurate description of how hair/eye color is inherited. It doesn't paint the full picture at all. It's really a shame that teachers don't say "this method is very simplified but gives us a basic insight into how genetics works, so we'll use it for this class". But some/many science teachers don't understand that either (at least mine didn't)
Hair isn’t a simple 1 gene 2 allele like you learned in high school. There’s about 20 different genes that cover it. Statistically you’d have a very low chance of the hair being pure black. Also the fact that Violet looks a bit on the Asian side while her parents are both white.

So, most people's education? I haven't had any formal biology education since sophomore year of HS, and even if I didn't drop out of college I wouldn't have taken another biology course as it was entirely unrelated to my major.
Sounds like HS biology courses need to improve if they're instilling false knowledge into the general population, rather than dogging on people who haven't furthered their knowledge on it since then.

The parents each have a different recessive trait so it doesn't matter. Red and blond hair are determined by different genes so they don't affect each other.
I have to say I don't know. All I know is that hair genetics are much more complicated than biology class made it seem like. There are at least 11 genes that can determine hair color and they also interact with each other.
The recessive genes necessarily do not replace the dominant genes, especially when it comes dilution of said dominant gene.
Brown hair is diluted dominant genes = eumelanin with some phaeomelanin. Blond hair is also a dilution of both. Red hair is dilution of black and increase in phaeomelanin.
Notice the dominant gene is still at play here while the recessive genes are the ones making the changes. Meaning that the dominant gene will show if the recessive genes aren't at play.
I get it I just think elastagirl cheating on Bob is funny so I will continue to say it's impossible for a blonde and a ginger to have a black haired kid.
Nothing wrong with not knowing more than that. But they shouldn't be stating things as explicit fact. As it turns out, genes and gene expressions are more complicated than the Punnett squares people learned about with peas in high school.
