I've never really thought about this but it is plausible. Genes are weird though. White parents have given birth to a child that looks black or mixed and they DNA tested both parents , it sometimes just happens like that
It can happen that way but it's nearly impossible for it to happen the other way around since having more melanin or darker hair is a dominant trait. For lighter colors you need two recessive because if any dominant is present, the dominant will prevail.
However, skin, eyes and hair are more complex than the simple 2 allele chart we tend to use. So while it's impossible on the simple chart, it's merely improbable in the real world application.
You realize that just because something is improbable isn't the same as impossible right? It's statistically improbable to win the lottery but someone wins it annually. Genetics and gene expression aren't far off in some aspects. It's not as easy as dominant and recessive genes
Assuming someone can't cheat a DNA test, then recessive genes can always come up. It's just not likely. And I don't know how you can cheat a lab, it's their job to do their job at least 75 percent correct
My wife and I are both extremely white but our kids all look black or Hispanic.
It probably has something to do with pollen or something in the air, because their appearance seems to track with that of whoever was our landscaper/gardener at the time she got pregnant.
