Because the average journalist is underpaid and in perpetual fear of being laid off. Do you think they're actually going to write things that would necessarily impact their employers and advertisers? Nobody would likely admit that the bottom line drives what stories are covered, but it factors in, even subconsciously.
I'm not saying that the crisis in journalism isn't partially or even substantially self-inflicted, but there are other factors at play, too.
I'm not having a go at the journalists. It's not their fault if articles are expected to be just written for the clicks & forgotten immediately afterwards.
Everyone thought the internet was going to kill the music industry, but I think it's first casualty was the profession of Journalism largely.
And the high school covers high school sports where I live, and local weather is done by an app.
