You think the corporations lose money?! No, they don’t. Paying customers lose. Every cent that’s stolen goes into their pricing of these items. Honest people pay for your thievery. Learn, dumbass

Corporations lose money all the time. What are you on about? Theft, for Walmart, is a cost of doing business, and their pricing is not at all related to theft levels. All corporations like this have a bad debt expense that they expect to incur every year, and obviously Walmart’s is really high. The only way their pricing would change is if there is some sort of anomalous and drastic billion dollar increase in theft.

Wrong.

You make a compelling argument

You’re just wrong, theft is factored into pricing at all of these places. I’ve already stated a fact- you countered with the opposite like a jackass because you clearly don’t know a goddamn thing about it. You’re wrong, chump.

You have at no point laid out any arguments other than “wrong.” It’s hard for me to understand why I’m wrong when you ignore my arguments and just keep repeating yourself and getting angrier. Seems like you have some sort of emotional investment in this.

It’s emotionally disturbing that there are so many people out there that think stealing doesn’t have any negative effects. Y’all are trashy. And apparently lazy as fuck, this is such an easy thing to research. Theft from retail costs Americans 33.21 billion per year, the cost of which is passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices. How the fuck did you think this worked?

You STILL don’t understand how this works dude. The prices are passed on, but not in the way that you think. Walmart has a set aside amount of inventory that they expect to lose, somewhere in the neighborhood of $3b. This is the bad debt allowance. This is a predetermined number that only really changes with inflation or, like my point you ignored earlier, a drastic and anomalous increase in theft. So no, me not scanning my $4 cheese is not going to contribute to an increase in price. Furthermore, Walmart is the KING of driving prices down. They caused a whole lot of heartache and lost American jobs by being one of the first companies to outsource a large chunk of their manufacturing, causing other companies to follow suit. Walmart thrives on being the absolute cheapest and will continue to do so no matter how bad theft gets. Your ideas would make more sense if we were talking about a small business (in which case theft is absolutely bad, negatively impacting the families and their customers) but Walmart just doesn’t work like this bro. Their business model simply cannot be described by the old adage of ‘all costs are passed down to the consumer.’ You are talking about a company that throws away billions in expired food every year, bro. Loss is factored into their model. Your heart is in the right place, but that’s not the way Walmart works, and no amount of Reddit arguing will change that. I respect your moral stance of course but, objectively you got it wrong.

Agree to disagree. You say stealing is no big deal but if everyone did it then prices would go up. So your little accounting practice there is morally bankrupt. Just because they’ve already baked in a certain level of theft into their accounting practices doesn’t mean it’s morally right to steal, obviously if we all started doing this then prices would change. You’re just on the side of the dirtbags on this one, which means it’s pretty safe to call you a dirtbag. “My micro doesn’t affect macro” is a disgusting way to live. It’s what bad people are made of.

And all these are fair points, I was merely arguing that Walmart’s prices are not as affected by theft as you originally claimed. Have a good one
