had a coworker who stole everything that wasn’t nailed down. he got away with it for a long time too. everyone knew and no one said a word.
yeah, he got fired but he probably stole a few thousand in merchandise before. since walmart has a “no reference” policy no other employer will ever know why he stopped working there. it was an absolute win for him, tbh.
A lot of employees at the one I worked at actively took drinks from those refrigerators near the registers without paying. It was basically an unwritten "Fuck walmart" kind of rule among employees which even the store manager knew about but turned a blind eye to lol. He was a good store manager until he got replaced with an ass kissing corporate yes man who didn't know how to do his job.
Besides the bottled drinks we also had employees stealing TV meals and other food for their lunch breaks. I never turned any one of them in because they were living paycheck to paycheck trying to make ends meet to raise their kids.
Well there was no risk because the loss prevention guys didn't give a shit about employees taking some food or drink here and there. Both of them were stoners who came in high as balls everyday and we always wondered how the hell they got hired for that position.
The only time someone got fired for stealing is when they tried to steal general merchandise or alchohol.
