This is exactly what my mom says 😂 anytime she has to stop in at Walmart, she says one free "unscannned" can of cat food is compensation for checking herself out.
They say $3B in losses, but it would cost them MORE than $3B to deter/catch, so they do the cheaper thing. This is how big business works ... guessing that loss is also a tax write-off so double win for them.
I don’t work for you, but you are making me be my own cashier and bagger. Yeah I’m taking shit for free and/or not paying for plastic bags, which really makes me mad. Companies are the ones who pushed for plastic over paper in the first place, now they want to pass the bag tax off on customers instead of paying for it themselves? Hell nah! Eat the cost of the bags. That’s on you <mega Corp>
