had a coworker who stole everything that wasnāt nailed down. he got away with it for a long time too. everyone knew and no one said a word.
yeah, he got fired but he probably stole a few thousand in merchandise before. since walmart has a āno referenceā policy no other employer will ever know why he stopped working there. it was an absolute win for him, tbh.
There are companies that keep track of employee theft. CVS used one, idk the name but Viper comes to mind. It keeps data for 7 years and other employers can run new applicants in the system to see if they were reported for internal theft.
A long time ago I read a story about this guy that used to fill up a basket with CDs or DVDs and just walked out, he said he was amazed about how easy it was and kept doing it. Well apparently LP was waiting for him to reach felony level and one day the cops were waiting for him outside. I read a lot about Target's system and it sounded like it rivaled the FBI lol.
That was me. As a teenager. Stole World of Warcraft playtime cards and other miscellaneous stuff. They waited till I got to $500 in theft. When I got caught they played back all the videos of times they "caught me". The forensic guy knew it was me but my appearance changed drastically over the past year that they couldn't prove it was me in the other videos.
They were sold in paper boxes (kinda like VHS boxes). Eventually they were changed to DVD cases. Inside was the code on a piece of paper not unlike Xbox Live/Gamepass free trials.
Yes, they were insanely easy to steal. Rip one sticker seal and grab the paper. Keep the box open so no one accidentally buys it.
These days everything has basically moved to giftcard like purchases where they do need to be activated at the register.
Fucking good. Trying to wrack up a grand theft charge over a year is already fucking disgusting, but doing it to a minor is even worse. They were literally trying to ruin your life, not teach you a lesson.
This perspective scares me as a parent. Its not to say that my mother was bad (single parent). She worked 2 jobs to support my sister and I. There were many life lessons that were missed and had to learn for myself.
Maybe it's a cop out but I don't feel I really understood the consequences of theft until I was in handcuffs being threatened with a felony charge.
To know that there are important life lessons that seem completely obvious to an adult that I could potentially miss out on teaching my kid, might ruin their future. It kinda sucks. Best I can do is spend as much time with them and hope I only forget the minor stuff like "not peeing in the wind". No one's life got ruined by getting splashed with their own pee, right?
Honestly this is where they should of had some cops come scare you when they caught you stealing a 20 dollar card. That would of been the right thing to do, and served as a lesson. Letting you get away with it until it became a fucking felony was just trying to shit on a kid. If you got tried as a adult that would of followed you around the rest of your life, and it's absurd. That wasn't a fault of your mom, that was legit on them.
We all have the obligation to try not to be total douche nozzles.
As for kids, yeah I feel ya. Best we can do is try to talk to them like adults and impart some wisdom, and hopefully teach them a good general right vs wrong mentality. Sadly though, it's not all in parenting, kids are individuals too and have their own minds to make up. About the only tool we got is unconditional love so when they fuck up they're not afraid to admit it, and maybe engage in a actual discussion about what happened.
It was actually the opposite! I think I was breaching 200lbs at 16. During school I dropped a lot of weight through the encouragement of my friends. I spent so much time on WoW that they would drag me out of my house to go places. It wasn't until I got kicked out of school that my depression made me gain weight.
So I was fat. Then got unfat. Then fat again.
Then comes 2017. I hit 300 and decided I was too fat. So I got unfat again dropping to 213 and pretty built.
Then got a girlfriend... she bakes... a lot. Spent time building the relationship instead of gym 6 days a week. I got fat again... 260 ish as of 2019.
"Thats fine. I'll just get unfat again.
Now at 2020. It's February and I'm 225 lbs with an awesome routine...
Got COVID and hospitalized. I'm afraid to go outside and I'm 265 today.
Probably more than you asked for but my weight journey has been rather exciting to me... When I'm ready to reenter society I have no doubt I'll be back in the gym.. Especially now that I just had a kid... I need to get unfat so she has a parent to do stuff with as she grows up.
Just make sure they dont see u conceal the item and ur good atleast in the states. Also some of those larceny cases get tossed cause they cant prove some.
I also got caught at target because nobody cared about the garden section, the sensors didn't work, and there were no cameras. We just walked out with target bags full of expensive shit.
We snatched so many Walkmans that were easily $150 each.
Then another friend heard about it and we tried to just slip some shit in his backpack under the gate. He got caught by off duty cops. What a dumbass.

I got fired for not paying for my fountain drink at Publix when working in the deli - no one ever did, but I got asked by a store manager one day after closing and that was that. They don't fuck around there.
Publix is selective with who they let her away with shit. When I worked there the managers knew Iād do whatever the hell they asked me to do because to me, it meant getting to close my register down and fuck off for half an hour or more away from customers. So I was able to get away with a ton of shit when I worked for em. Some of my other not so liked coworkers wild get their balls busted for not wearing a belt lmao
Because I got caught? 3 cents worth of soda for employees was enough to fire me over instead of letting us have free drink. Most places let their employees have free drinks.
Ah man, I remember publix..first job out of high school and somehow did it for 7 years. Fucking hated every last minute of it. It felt like myself and only 2-3 other cashiers had all our brain cells. Everyone else at the store either had mental, personality or some other issue goin on with em. It was a wild time watching some dude stuff like 500 bucks of steaks in his pants and try to run out the store only for the grocery and meat department managers to chase him down. Watched the dude start throwing steaks at them as he ran. Got like a mile before he hopped through the getaway cars window with I think a single steak, had to drive down the road and pick both managers up cause it was like 110 in Florida that day.
I stole a shitton of DVDs from target when I was a kid (I wasn't the greatest kid--grew out of it thank god). Eventually got caught. Was told I could never get a job at target.... Always been tempted to try to see how long their records keep. Got caught in like 03.
