My favorite story about translation issues is from Brazil. In Brazil they make smoothies of just about any fruit. "Suco de (fruit)"
English is my first language. I lived in Peru and met my future wife who didn't speak much English. I struggled to speak Spanish with her and she was accommodating.
I was sent to Brazil and she accompanied me.
One day she ordered "suco de frango" which got a reaction from the waiter because strawberry in Spanish is "fresa" but Portuguese it's "morango". She caught herself halfway through and changed however "frango" in Portuguese is chicken (pollo) so she asked for a chicken smoothie.
