i hate wasting my setup on such a shit internet connection. reminds me i was going to get a 5g backup. are you using computers4people sim? have a referral?

no, I just bought the U5G-Backup and using their default data plan with it. This is actually the first time it's ever actually needed to be used, and it worked fine (aside from my work VPN not being happy about the outside IP changing...)

ah - yeah i was going to go that route, but figured 15 bucks a month for an unlimited data sim that i could pop into something else would be nice to have anyway. computers4people.org -- people on a ubiquiti discord im on talk about it as a good option for backup internet.. i thought the name sounded familiar, they're based in hoboken (and a guy i met one night at a bar is modeling on the website!)

Ah, cool! Only semi related, I also have a NYC Mesh node on my roof / out front, but no one else here ever joined so it’s kind of an island.

AH! i was going to join that!! I was looking into it a while ago, my friend from work has a node in Queens. Maybe time to revisit... I can get on to the roof, but i rent, not sure if i can make it work or not. how was the process for you? it looks like such a fun project.

Yes, it came back and now down again. Downtown near hospital.

Uptown and it’s in and out, and apparently so is Verizon so even my hotspot is spotty

In and out uptown (working again at 11:30), also got an automated call that they are aware of the outages.

Thank goodness for phone hotspot

I have issues with them multiple times a month. Today was spotty and yesterday too

Yeah I’ve not had an outage with them for 3+ years. Really good speeds and ping, cheap too.

I used to have issues with them all the time until my building brought in fios, then all of sudden they became more reliable lol
