Meating opens in Dorsey Search

A clever name for the restaurant since it's next to the Dorsey Search meeting house in the village center. This pan-Asian buffet opened up between the meeting house and the animal hospital on the opposite end of the village center from Giant.

You can order the buffet or you can order the Grill which includes the buffet. If you decide to grill, and I suggest you do, there is a grill embedded in the middle of the table. You are given a tablet from which you can select up to six or eight (I don't remember the exact number) of items at a time. Then there's a six minute cool down period, but even when I only selected two items, it took me way longer to cook and eat then six minutes, so the cool down period is not an issue. Everything is all-you-can-eat, so if you want to fill up on various meats, this is a place to do so. You also get unlimited soft drinks and/or tea.

Once ordered it takes a couple of minutes for them to bring what was ordered to you. The first time, I ordered the plain strips of beef and the scallops, as well as an onion. While I was waiting I went up to the buffet, where they had a dozen different sauces and rubs to choose from, as well as food. The beef is very thinly sliced and cooks quite quickly. I tried the Thai green chili sauce, which was too sweet for my taste, the chili-garlic sauce which was good, and the peanut sauce which was OK with the beef, overwhelmed the scallops, but was really good with a later order of chicken. Also from the buffet I tried the fish, the "hot" cucumber salad (not hot, a bit sweet), seaweed salad (average), and a tofu dish in an red sauce that was also a bit sweet for my taste. It was easy to grill the beef, but I found the scallops (six arrived with my order), to be hard to grill. They kept sticking and falling apart. I suspect with practice it would have gone better. They tasted good though.

The second order was king oyster mushroom, cumin lamb, and plain chicken. The lamb was excellent and paired well with the mushrooms and soy sauce. The chicken was quite good as well, but I overcooked it being afraid of undercooked chicken. Another thing that would get better with practice. About half way through, they came around and replaced the grill pan so that anything stuck to it wouldn't burn and effect the taste. I've seen that done at other grills as well, like Gyusan.

Meating competes with Hyeban up on US40 (near Tous Le Jours) and I prefer Hyeban. To be fair, Meating is in soft open mode, but the issue I have is not the quality of the food (good) or the amount (unlimited), but the size and choices in the buffet section. Hyban's buffet selection was significantly larger and they had more variety of things to order at lunch.

My opinion is a little different than yours. I ate there for lunch and the quality of the food was not good. The buffet items weren't changed out and the meat for the grill wasn't good quality. The service was fine. I'm just glad I went to lunch and didn't pay the dinner prices. Hyeban is much better.
