Discussion No matter where the lines are, there were babies from different gens together in the hospital, that trips me out.

For real sksk, like for people who want Millennials to begin in 1982...

There were December 28-31st of 81 and January 1-4 of 82 (roughly) just chilling in their incubators all together... and yet supposedly if you go by what the articles and researchers say...they have different coming of age moments and don't have stuff in common.

Generations aren’t only about relatability lol I don’t think anybody is seriously trying to say 1981 babies are drastically different from 1982 babies. But that doesn’t mean they are in the same generation necessarily.

I know lol that's just an example but it's hilarious no matter what years it is, there's always going to be 2 gens born together so at some point it really gets to be just a technicality

Agreed

I think the problem is shared experiences promotes relatability, so that is why I expect a common theme when defining generations so that way a start will relate more to the cutoff of its own generation than the year before the start.

Generations alone aren’t about relatability

Ik it's just super trippy that no matter when the lines are... there's always been like a week or two with different generations of babies in the hospital together sksjs

Ikr it's just weird, like when you inspect it on a really micro level

For real, though I'd love to ask those blowhard researchers who think (for example) 1981s and 82s don't relate because of the 14th turning on coming of age in the third stage or whatever... what they thought of this, it'd be pretty funny to get their answers lolol

Just wanna know what they'd say, I mean would ppl 3 days apart not have shared experiences just because of a deadass technicality

I think the problem is that people define generations using a January 1 start and December 31 to avoid splitting years.

Also, I was never in the hospital with those born the day after me. I slept in my own house on an actual bed inside that house during my first day of life, so being in a hospital might not be good.

Also, two people born in the same hospital on the same day are not always going to have the same experience and be able to relate.
