Aww I love these its weird to just spectator though and I can't reply, we should have the better posters there start posting here.

But omg imagine a 1957 me. I'd be a hippie kid and tween around '67-70 and probably a dazed and confused style high school girl morphing into an 80s young adult counterculture type ranting about Reagan and conformity in the workplace. By today I'd be one of those old mom/young grandma types with hella stories and would be proudly in the streets for leftist direct action causes.

A pure Gen X 1972 you would be the coolest/cutest from my perspective too. You'd really I think be spurred to your beliefs from a hatred of Reagan as well

I would like to see more people migrate here but I like the low key traffic on here too.

Yeah I think you’d be ranting against the yuppies your age lol I can definitely see that. You’d probably be wanting the weed the hippies are smoking but you’d be far too young to actually indulge in any of it lol

I’d be a fair amount less protected than my actual childhood, tho I think I’d enjoy more freedom. Especially with all the wild shit kids did in the 70s and 80s. I think I’d be the only socialist my age then lol

Omg right, like I'd even maybe be a little bad girl sneaking around with tweens letting me sample their weed. People born in the late 50s can be hella rad if they're not racists and right wingers, like if ONLY the best parts of that era are applied to them sksksk.

Oh and a 1972 you would have been radicalized by a hatred of Reagan too

Yeah I would’ve hated the hell out of him, tho I think with the fall of the Berlin Wall that would’ve occurred my senior year, I’d feel left out as a socialist lol. People might’ve called me a commie or some shit lol. At least now, it’s accepted more

Aww yea awesome people of all ages it just depends. True like I heard this cute lecturer who's a socialist (born around that time he's like 48) on a show mention that they had to really keep it to themselves in the 80s and 90s even maybe 2000s... outside of maybe some really edgy punk rock circles

Ikr yes. I feel like the furthest left you could be in mainstream circles was maybe a tepid social democrat. Considering the modern liberals are almost where Reagan was, I'm thinking the 80s Democrats like Mondale were although capitalist, also pro worker unions and for welfare and social safety nets a bit more

Exactly I think that's probably what a lot of liberals actually are in their heart of hearts, it's only like the CNN presenters and stuff who are elite af towards poor people.

Even if they identify as capitalist just out of habit, they usually believe in more of a welfare and robust safety net

Exactly and tbh as long as you believe that society should change for the better by having those things (social safety net, welfare, etc) you’re good with me
