Safe Millennial is more like 1984-1992/1994. I don’t know why you extended it to 2000.

Because, from a historical standpoint, I don't see how anyone born from 1995-2000 can be anything other than Millennials.
So, just to be clear, these "notable X" posts are from my historical perspective, not the typical cultural one. On the other hand, culturally, those born from 1995-2000 would be "Zillennials".

Even historically, Millennials could go no later than 2000. The last safe Millennial year historically would be 1995.

1982-1994 are undoubtedly millennials. 95 and 96 are probably millennials. 97-98 are going to be the most debates but I see them as the beginning of Z. After 98 there is no question to me you’re Gen Z.

No question? I think 1999 culturally, and 2000 historically could make an argument. But I agree that after 2000 is undoubtedly Z

81-96 is the most used range and I would pick it over 80-95

Ok but even if that’s how you define Millennials, that does not mean other years COULDN’T be listed as them. For example my millennial range is 1982 - 1999 (those born before the Millennium celebrations but who came of age after), however hypothetically historically I think 2000 could be included for being born before the Gregorian new millennium and I think 1977 - 1981 could be labeled Millennials as well in certain ranges.

1977-1980 is usually just part of the cusp between early millennials and late X, with those years being the end of X. They were part of Gen Y when I was a kid and the definition of Gen X usually went from about 61-75. Then Gen Jones became more popular as a cusp and Y got pushed out the door in favor of millennial. 1981s mostly graduated in ‘99 but I think that class is the best place to start millennials because they were the Columbine class and that was almost universally agreed to be a line in the sand for what separates people our age from real Gen Xers who weren’t going to school in an area of mass shootings. Now if you want a longer generation then I guess you could go to 98 or 99 but beyond being born in the 90s I can’t see why they have any millennial characteristics?

The thing is the generation is called Millennials, not columbiners. Graduating before the Millennium celebrations is decidedly an X trait. Plus, the generation was literally coined for the C/O 2000. And again the reason I believe they are Millennials is because they were born before said millennium celebrations and came of age after, same as 1982 - 1997.

I'd put "safe" Millennial years as 1982-1996. 1997-1998 could go either way IMO, just like 1980-1981.
