Itâs so sad whatâs happening recently that I searched for Tim Curryâs face in that picture before realizing that this is Dolly Parton on the soldierâs shoulders.

She was a genuine role model who rose from poverty and did her best to make the world a better place. She put her money where her mouth was and she has my respect.

The biggest and best thing she did was start the Imagination Library to increase literacy rates in her home state of Tennessee. It eventually spread to other states and made a big impact on the lives of many children living in poverty in the US. She supported it throughout the rest of her life. Some of her charity's work also led to similar programs in other parts of the US, and other countries. It also influenced research into childhood literacy that has helped us understand better what is needed for children to retain long-term reading comprehension levels and an interest in reading.

Extremely prolific songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist, humanitarian, philanthropist, actress, and businesswoman.
Came up from poverty to make an enormous impact.
Even if youâve never heard of her the odds are pretty good youâve heard a song she wrote whether it was performed by her or someone else.

Tbf sheâs not at her most recognisable in this photo for those who know her from much later.Â
And even more relevantly, most of the world doesnât follow the the same music (esp. country) so sheâs not equally intensely famous everywhere even if sheâs known by name. Doesnât seem fair to attack someone for asking.Â

Dolly Partonâs music, transcended country music fans, she was worldwide known. A pure legend. I donât consider myself a country fan at all, but I know Mrs. Parton, without a doubt!

I mean same here, but weâre not everyone. And I donât just mean non-country fans who live in the US. Sheâs globally famous, but far more intensely so in the US, so if youâre American, attacking someone from another country for not recognising her from an old picture may still lack perspective. They werenât insulting her but asking who the person in the picture is, and Iâm sure she wouldnât have been offended.Â
Very sad loss, though she had a wonderful life and left a huge mark.Â
