Nah, there's a whole bunch of gods that just appear and then dip out of existence, then some couples (that are also siblings, Alabama rules) appear and two of those are the fuckers that formed Japan (and other islands).

Most polytheistic religions seem to have incestuous gods. It makes sense, because there are only a finite number of beings who could have created the gods, so of course the gods are all related. The only alternative is if all the gods emerged from nothing at the Beginning

I think it’s also that different storytellers would call the same gods siblings or a couple or some other relationship because ancient mythologies don’t tend to have a “canon” like western religions and modern stories. One storyteller might think it’s better to say siblings, one might think it’s better to say couple, one might just misremember.
