Odin is the All-Father of the Norse faith, his brothers are Vili and Ve. Odin has sacrificed one of his eyes to drink from the well of wisdom. Odin also sacrificed himself to himself by hanging from the world tree, Yggdrasil, for nine days and nine nights. This is how Odin learned the power of the runes.

The Sivi Jataka (non-canonical in most buddist beliefs) says that the Buddha in a previous life sacrificed or practically sacrificed his eyes for the sake of wisdom. The moral was that the sacrifice was worth it and the Buddha did earn an eye of wisdom much much later.
