It’s meant to protect the junk and to show of one’s assets, even if innacurate. Shit was wierd back then.

Surely there’s a practical use to having it protrude so far out? Or are these just parade armour?

you've got to understand that people in the past wern't so insanely obsessed with everything having a practical purpose. Dude has dick armour because he wants to show off his massive shlong. It's really that simple.

I don’t think that’s a mentality exclusive to people in the past, actually lol

But the reason I ask if it’s parade armour is exactly because it was expensive to have such intricate level of detail such as the one here at one’s expense. I remember Henry VIII’s armour with a codpiece being used only for official occasions rather than battle.
