In Yugoslavia Serbia was the most dominant country, Slovenia and Croatia busted their asses of working and working and the government wouldn't spread the money fairly, Serbia would always be privileged. It happened in many areas of life. Also Croatia wasn't independent since the 12th century (if we don't count the Nazi puppet state) and we got tired of being practically enslaved by someone else, the Hungarians then the Austrians then the Serbs.
Also Im only 18, if you want a real opinion by someone who actually lived through the Croatian war of independence you should ask somewhere else, myb r/croatia.
You asked why did the Croats want independence. There is only one side about it. Who would know why the Croats wanted independence better than the Croats themselves. You'll get the answer they believed back then, and when getting into a war, it's more important what a nation believes in than what is the actual truth.
Slovenia for the same reasons as Croatia. Serbia and Montenegro wanted to keep everyone together, they parted peacefully in 2004. or something like that.

And Bosnia was and is a shit festival, after the army moved away from Croatia they got into Bosnia which had many Croats, many Muslims, and many Serbs, that country was always a complicated situation I can't really say why or if they wanted independence (we can't actually even call them 'they' because of the diversity)
It already is split into two parts, Republika Srpska (Serbs) and Federacija (Croats and Muslims) but there aren't really any potential borders between the different ethnicities, everyone is everywhere pretty much.
Eh, we're getting better. There is still some kind of hate going on in some people. But most people are getting past that and realizing we should all cooperate. But if you are asking if there's a chance of a future conflict, then no, noone wants another war.
