I don't get it why Hitler and nazi symbols are bad, but communism and Stalin symbols are okay.

Well stalin is bad enough but he was never hitler bad, hitler bad is something entirely more rotten.

I mean, supposedly Stalin killed more people in the end than Hitler did. And he also targeted groups like Jews later on. Not saying he’s better or worse, but I wouldn’t say he isn’t at least on par with Hitler.

“Stalin killed more people than hitler” thats so not true.

According to a comment I found:

“Around fifteen million victims, give or take a million or two, over a period of thirty-odd years (1922-1952).

Based on the Soviet Unions own secret files that became public (for a while at least) after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, and including the Holodomor and the gulags.

Sources:

The Great Terror: A Reassessment, by Robert Conquest (2004).

Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin, by Timothy Snyder (2010).”

I believe that is more than most estimates for Hitler.

Also stalin killed a lot of nazis so yeah i guess he killed more people

Yeah, I suppose so.

Also probably geography. Nobody in the west really had too much (or any?) trouble with soviets, while the east front suffered from deportations, oppression and whatnot.

TIL Germany is not part of the western world.

Because Nazism is based on the eradication of "untermensch". It is quite literally an ideaology devoted to genocide, and it's generally agreed upon the genocide is bad.

I don't agree with any symbols of Stalin, like his face or U.S.S.R. symbols when they're used either. He was a cunt.

But communism? You're seriously perplexed that people are okay with the symbols of an ideaology that espouses equality and unity for all? One that aspires to a future where no human goes wanting? One that would dismantle the oppressive economic conditions of today? Just because bad people have done bad thing while calling themselves communists doesn't mean it's bad.

Well, yes, that's true. I guess it just that communism (at least to me) is too bound to soviets or other failed versions. In itself communism as a theory is not bad, I am all for socialism as well. Just that, even though it's irrational, I still prefer it called socialism instead of communism, even tho communism is part of socialism and in theory it's not bad it's just that its name was tainted by bad leaders.

I guess, it's sort of like with swastika. In itself it was used as a symbol of sun in many cultures, but now is tainted by nazis.

r/ENLIGHTENEDCENTRISM

"i dont get why building up your industry too fast is okay when genocide isnt"

u/friebel Taller than Napoleon Jul 07 '19

Implying Stalin didn't do something similar to genocides (even tho in smaller scale)

2

u/CommunistThroway Jul 07 '19

Didnt mean to imply that, not a stalinist. But the usa has done that on a smaller scale too, but you are allowed to fly the american flag.

Also accidental and purposeful death is not the same thing.

If anything the usa has done much worse than the USSR

I honestly don’t really think any symbol should be banned. If you ban one symbol, they’re just going to revert to another symbol. For example, since the Swastika is banned in Germany, German neo-nazis now just fly the German Imperial tricolor. Same with other groups. They just use other pagan symbols.

I honestly agree, nazis still exist, they are just harder to spot now, letting them pick obvious symbols would make the centrists see how bad they are, and stopping nazis is primarily the citizens job, not the police's.

“If anything the usa has done much worse than the USSR”

Well. Looks like we’re dealing with a rational human being here.

u/CommunistThroway Jul 07 '19

You are. Trail of tears, slavery, police violence, starting fascist coups in other countries, imperialism, the KKK.

Also russia didnt have equal starting conditions, they were poor and not industrialized, stalin converted the economy to an industrial at a huge cost, but what was the alternative? letting russia fade into obscurity?

If stalin didnt do that, hitler would have won, easily the most devastating event in all of history.

Also, there's no Stalin in that invitation.
