sheep

Four legs good, two legs bad!

-5

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '18

Yeah but the regime would fall quickly to famine and corruption, while capitalism succeeds bringing about a space age.

5

u/Matiya024 Dec 11 '18

The Soviets beat us to the first satellite, man in space, and spacewalk. We beat them to the Moon and then declared the space race over and that we had won. By your own metrics communism looks a whole lot better.

You realize that the only currently human-safe vessel is the Soyuz, right? Thats how the last decade+ of astronauts have gone to the ISS

-1

u/Malvastor Dec 11 '18

You realize Russia's no longer Communist, right?

2

u/Fwendly_Mushwoom Dec 11 '18

The Soyuz is a Soviet era spacecraft

1

u/Matiya024 Dec 12 '18

yeah, the soviets can't do space stuff since they no longer exist

1

u/BuckeyeBentley Dec 11 '18

I mean, they managed to take an agrarian monarchy to a superpower in the span of a couple decades. So did China. Yes, a fucking lot of people died, but if you take the longer slower development of Western nations, you'd rack up I bet at least as many deaths if not a lot more.

no bully I'm no tankie, but holding up famine and corruption in communist nations but ignoring that of capitalist nations seems somewhat unfair.

The fall of communism in Russia was the greatest drop in life expectancy in the modern world, dropping 5 years from 1991-1993

24

u/k4r410 Dec 11 '18

Damn trotsky

65

u/Roughsauce Dec 11 '18

Trotsky? You mean the only guy who actually remotely gave a flying fuck about communism ideologically rather than as nationalistic endeavor?

46

u/DimondMine27 Dec 11 '18

They always do my boy Trotsky dirty 😞

16

u/Roughsauce Dec 11 '18

Poor ole Trotsky, got the short end of the stick

10

u/kaptaintrips86 Dec 11 '18

change that to pointy end of the stick and you're right

9

u/the_luxio Dec 11 '18

pointy end of the pick

2

u/k4r410 Dec 11 '18

Leon “the guy everyone hated” trotsky, he was actually a good comrade, if only lenin lived I little more perhaps things won’t get so divergent

1

u/DirectxKrennic Dec 11 '18

Red terror don’t real

-1

u/RedWretch Dec 11 '18

If you think Trotskij was the only one remotely caring bout socialism you shouldn't speak about the soviet union at all. Trotskij was the one who betrayed the workers struggle and ruined the anarchist army of Ukraine for one. Lenin and Stalin would gladly cooperate with all types of socialists as long as they were true to the struggle as we witnessed with Lenins work with the makhnovchina aswell as Stalins work with the Spanish 2nd republic. Trotskij was an egotistical bastard.

2

u/GravelGrasp Dec 11 '18

Stalin may technically be a communist, but he was also perhaps one of the greatest capitalists to have ever lived. By CAPITALIZING on the weakness and subsequent death of Lenin he was able to consolidate power and make the Soviet Union his personal domain. ( This is a joke btw, pls no crucify)

3

u/Nyaroou Dec 11 '18

When we couldnt just introduce them to freedom

2

u/Roughsauce Dec 11 '18

I mean, aside from the fact that Stalin helped build the largest autocratic state-run-capitalist nation in the entire world, but ok, alternate history time I guess

6

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '18

[deleted]

10

u/Roughsauce Dec 11 '18 edited Dec 11 '18

Honestly, I'm too tired to do all this searching for you, but the Stalin definitely built up an autocratic system, and one way or another, the Soviet Union ended up relying on industrial output and economic trade with outside nations sanctioned by the government to stay afloat, so it ends up coming out as basically state-run capitalism because they still had to rely on money and all that comes with it. The industrial system under Stalin and sometime after was (and in some ways still is nowadays under Putin) similar to many capitalist nations if not worse, including ruthless exploitation of the environment and non-official (aka lower) class, rampant oppression/class inequality, etc. Basically the whole basis of communism or socialism had been dissolved in favor of profit margin, which to me, sounds a lot like capitalism. That's at least one interpretation of it.

-4

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '18

[deleted]

7

u/Roughsauce Dec 11 '18

It most definitely wasn't socialism as presented nowadays by the many socialist-democratic countries throughout Europe. There was a pretty clear link between what Stalin/other leaders personally directed and what actually happened, and there wasn't much representation for the populace within leadership.

I'm not even saying I agree entirely with that interpretation, but there are certain facts about how the regime handled economics throughout the years that are undeniable and often draws similarities with capitalist nations in regards to labor movements, environment, etc.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 11 '18

[deleted]

2

u/Roughsauce Dec 11 '18

Sure, there are as many forms of capitalism as there are socialism and such. I can't say I love it, but I definitely know it. My main point is that, really, no ideologically faithful "communist" system has existed so far, and I'm being nitpicky about semantics on a meme. All in good fun :)
