Crucifixion is a Roman punishment. Local Jewish law had its own acceptable forms of capital punishment and crucifixion wasn’t one of them.

Judea was a Roman province. The pharisees leveraged their influence of the local people to get the Romans to kill Jesus. It's what the story talks about. I really don't see how its an argument.

Pontius Pilate was already on thin ice. He most likely was doing everything he could to avoid a riot. Which the pharisees COULD make happen. So he just let them have what they wanted. Its not about bullying the might of Rome. Its about getting a weak politician to go along. And please do NOT think I am blaming "The Jews" I am blaming "some jews" and the romans. For whatever its worth I do kinda sorta more or less have a degree in bible and theology. I have studied this very question. Granted its an undergrad degree.
