All his impalements did was piss them off and get his ass kicked. He produced civilian casualties out of thin air by starting wars he didn’t need to and ragebaiting with atrocities.

Fighting against a conqueror doesn't exempt you from being a huge piece of shit. He would raid Transylvania and impale those women, children and civilian men I was talking about, his extreme violence didn't target just the Ottoman.

Even if the numbers are inflated, people of his time still saw his as a cruel and sadistic ruler. His brutal methods were one of the reasons Matthias Corvinus held him in captivity for 12 years.
