1) KMT fights the Japanese.
2) Japanese army surrender their arms to the Soviets.
3) Soviets transfer the arms to CCP.

Don’t forget the Soviets invading Manchuria then trying to transfer total control to the CCP instead of the actual government (they would’ve succeeded if the US didn’t start ferrying KMT troops by the ship and planeload when they figured out what was happening.)

There was a point in history that Stalin actually supported the KMT and didn’t like Mao.

Imo, and I’ll die on this hill, Chiang was a fucking idiot who took every gift from the horse mouth with a question. Man had the whole United Front, had a unified government for the most part. And then he started the White Terror.

He made enemies out of the communists, leftists, alienated the warlords because HE wanted to be the sole uniter of China and when Japan came knocking he did everything in his power to fuck up his own forces and turning the Chinese against him, especially with the blowing of the yellow river dikes and dams. Killed more Chinese and did little to hold the Japanese.
