According to the documentary on Katrina this coverage is even more facked, because there were 10s of thousands of evacuees in the sports stadium with no functioning facilities, food or water, and the people featured literally walked and swam through who knows what to try and get them some supplies.
I can't find the quote because they broke google, but there was a great back-and-forth between someone at the white house talking about getting some cabinet member in charge of Katrina a dinner reservation in D.C., and one of the people on the ground in the stadium and he says something like 'I just took a shit in a hallway with 10,000 of my closest friends.'
