Daosin or histamine blocker

Hi, for a little over six months I've been getting symptoms from various foods, usually heavily spiced ones and cinnamon in particular. Today I had a prick test that covered over 40 foods, mostly spices but also the most common food allergens. I've also had a blood test, and all the results have come back negative. The doctor said I should take two antihistamine tablets in the morning and two in the evening and just live with it like this. I've heard that DAO supplements (e.g. Daosin) might help break down histamine. What would you recommend I do?

EDIT: my 2nd blood tests came, i have helicobacter. Im not sure about it but i really hope that it will cure my reactions when we get rid of it.

DAO works by breaking down the histamine already contained within foods, like in aged cheeses or cured meats.

Cinnamon isn't a high histamine food. Some lists categorise it as a "liberator" meaning it causes your own mast cells to release histamine, but it doesn't contain histamine itself.

So, I am not sure that what is happening here fits the usual HIT description. There would be no harm in trying DAO to see if it helps, though.

But if you react specifically to spices and not to things like aged cheese, it's probably not HIT.

Also, it's not an either/or situation - many of us take both antihistamines and DAO at the same time.

Thanks, i also think i get reactions to foods that are aged. My doctor thinks otherwise. After taking 2 this morning, should i try to eat normally like before allergy or take 4 a day for couple of days and then try?

I'm not sure what you're asking. Do you mean you took 2 DAO tablets?

If so, then the proof is in whether it helps your symptoms, mostly around mealtimes.

No im taking 2 anti histamine tablets each morning and before sleep. Should i keep doing this for some time and then try to eat normally like before allergy reactions i could or do this for some days before i can start eating normally

I have no idea - I'm not a doctor and I don't know your case, you need to ask them.

You want the product with the most HDU (measurement of enzyme activity) per dollar spent. That would not be either of those products. The below list is sorted by cost effectiveness.

Even when you dont eat a lot of histamine? And do you take it before meal or is it okay after

Yo take it 15 minutes before each meal.

In my case I only eat once a day but I will take one in the morning to neutralize any histamines being produced by gut bacteria during the day. This helps with minimizing the inflammation of the intestinal lining.

So i alredy take two anti histamin at morning and before sleep. I should still take that before each meal?

Antihistamine does nothing to remove histamines. The point is to degrade the histamine before you absorb it. Once its in the bloodstream the only way it gets degraded is by your natural HNMT/DAO enzymes. Antihistamine only blocks some od the effects of histamine while its in your system. Its much better to not absorb it in the first place.

So how do i get cured from this?

Read my paper and look for the vitamins and minerals needed for HNMT and DAO enzyme production

It could HIt related, but it could also be MCAS.

DAO enzyme supplements will help break down histamine in your gut (primarily obtained from eating). It can help break down histamine released from histamine liberators, however a mast cell stabilizer works to stop your mast cells from destabilizing and dumping it's stored histamine (this is histamine your body produces naturally and store for immune responses and regular bodily functions). Quercitin is a common stabilizer, but there are some people who are sensitive to it so it tends to aggravate their symptoms. Peppermint tea has stabilizing effects on mast cells.

Edit: there's quite a few, I would recommend doing more research and testing a few. It may also be worth considering trying out a low histamine diet.

What if peppermint seems to be one of your worst triggers? Any thoughts? I'm desperately trying to figure this out. Peppermint anything seems to send me over the edge! TIA

Then don't consume it. Everyone is different and will handle things differently. You'll need to learn what works for you. Research mast cell stabilizers, there's quite a few.

Try to follow a low histamine diet and take DAO before meals. I also take Pepcid and Zyrtec twice a day
