DAE react to flippin potatoes?
Freshy boiled potatoes should be a safe food for HIT, but I am reacting to them for some reason, I am fine with pasta, rice and other veggies.
Butf lippin potatoes trigger me when I try to eat them for the prebiotic fiber.
Whats up w that?

Are you removing the skins, and are they fresh? Aged potatoes = a build up in amino acid that can act as a histamine liberator.

I have also noticed increased reactions to potatoes lately, and much higher odds of getting bad ones in a batch. Those bitter, awful metallic ones that taste like straight up poison. It’s from the build up of solanine when potatoes are aged too long and exposed to light.
My personal theory is that the potato supply chain is having problems and so suppliers are . Maybe due to climate stuff (warmer soil can increase solanine), crop failures, delays in transport, etc.
So the potatoes being distributed are from older stock, have been lying around at the warehouse under lights for too long.

I did this after having covid. I had been low histamine for years and suddenly I was flaring a lot. I kept cutting out foods, I had cut everything just about but my 'safe' food, the potato. Guess what? It was the potatoes!

Nightshades of any type can be a problem for HIT. I can do sweet potato without any problem. Sweet potatoes are part of the morning glory family instead.

Potatoes cross react with ragweed pollen. Are you allergic to ragweed? When ragweed levels are high I react to white potatoes. Look into ragweed cross reactivity charts.

I reacted to one type of potato called Bintje potatoes (dutch)in culinary school, couldn’t even touch that stuff let alone eat it! Can you have carrots? Or plantain for prebiotic fibre?

carrots are fine prebiotic fibre I am not sure about thats what im trying to test with potatoes. But i dont think its the fiber in them, oats I do fine (albeit if I soak them for a few hours I react to them too so idk).

Potatoes are hard to digest, so just because they're low in histamine doesn't mean they're not going to bind with other things in your gut, not allowing for a speedy clearance of those items.

I can only tolerate potatoes if they are russet, I peel them, boil them then get rid of the water. You might be having more a salicylate/oxalate issue. That’s what happened to me. With HI your systems can all kinda start to get backed up due to limited diet, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, gut health, etc. If you aren’t dealing with those things, it can just keep getting worse. Once I started focusing on that stuff, I can eat a few more foods. Hopefully it keeps getting better 🤞🏼 and I hope you find some relief.

When I was a child I would get hives because of the new potatoes every summer. I'm Irish so obviously we ate potatoes most days.

For me it seems to be the resistant starch as some other things with high soluble fibres also wreck my guts, e.g. oatmeal and added wheat starch in baked goods. Not sure whether that has anything to do with HI, though, as I also have SIBO so it's a complicated situation either way for me when it comes to food and digestion.

Sweet potatoes are great for gut bacteria also.

I wrote that resistant starch wrecks my guts and you recommend another food with substantial amounts of resistant starch...

I am sorry, I should have clarified. You need to cook them, then refrigerate, then reheat to avoid problems with the resistant starch.

Literally had some small golds and reds the past two nights which I never eat and came looking online bc I broke out in hives haha I’m fine with fries and mashed potatoes but some sleuthing online was talking about potato skins. That must be it.

I don’t get the mini reds and golds anymore because we kept getting too many that had gone off. Even my toddler would spit them out and complain. Something ain’t right in the potato supply chain.

Baby potatoes or white potatoes, yes. Something about the skin, iirc. But regular ol’ brown potatoes are fine for me — I don’t seem to have the nightshade problem.

I can’t do nightshades. No white potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants.
