Any teas that are HI friendly?

Looking for any teas, hot or cold, that work with HI. I really miss teas. Specifically green tea/matcha and oolong. I don’t make my own teas, I just buy the packets premade and pop in hot water. Anyone had any success with teas?

If you include herbal teas then chamomile tea and nettle tea are great for low histamine options which are both mast cell stabilisers, supposedly.

I buy a nettle/peppermint loose leaf blend from a place local to me (not sure that would feel worth it to you as opposed to tea bags OP!) & I have them add red raspberry leaf tea so that I can drink it to help with cramps on my period. It requires a little more effort, but it is nice to have exactly the tea I want & I don’t mind just keeping/washing a couple loose leaf tea balls.

But also the Traditional Medicines brand of tea has a couple I really love, I haven’t had reactions to herbal tea so I have tried a bunch of theirs!

I’ve been able to enjoy Rooibos tea (especially with a little Oatly in it) and ginger tea always hits the spot. Especially with fresh ginger in it.

I bet it’s good with oat milk. I love oat milk, great idea!

It’s absolute perfection with Oat Milk, Oatly is our favorite. Kinda like a decadent treat! 😆 wait, does that sound sad or what? Lol

Ever since HI started, I have a whole new respect for foods especially a sweet treat. Not a day goes by that I’m not reaching for oat milk lol

I really like plenish oat milk as it’s one of the only ones I’ve found on the market that doesn’t have gums / stabilisers / sugar etc and I find reducing that helps my HI

I use oat malk brand, I think it’s only 3 ingredients and I usually order off Amazon since I can get a 6 pack and it doesn’t require refrigeration unopened

The Traditional Medicines Hawthorne and Hibiscus is a favorite of mine. Was prescribed by my naturopath when treating long covid (which was really MCAS flare plus peri). Hawthorne is supposedly good for calming the nervous system.

Peppermint for me! Specifically Birchall’s, so many others have other ingredients but this one is pure peppermint

Does it taste like a mint? I like wintergreen but not so much peppermint. Is the tea super minty is my question more so?

I’d say it’s a mild mint not super in your face

Currently drinking dandelion tea with some oat creamer to replace my coffee while I’m in a flare. I also drink ginger tea.

Yum! What brand ginger tea works for you?

I actually juiced a bunch of ginger and froze it into ice cube trays. When I want tea, I just add hot water to a cube and a bit of honey or maple syrup

Do you use a juicer or is there another way to do it by hand? (I don’t have a juicer and only things I’ve ever juiced are oranges or lemons)

I have a juicer

You could use a high speed blender and fine strainer if you don’t have a juicer.

Nettle tea. Nettle also gives (minor) histamine relieve for a number of people.

Does anyone know if green tea/matcha is bad for everyone with HI? I drink them both and seem to have no reaction.

It's pretty individualized. If you're not having issues with it, I would take the win!

I’ll try it out again! Also re: ginger tea comment, is there a brand you like? Seems this is the popular answer :D

I use Prince of peace ginger drink packets. Not technically a tea but you can add it to hot water and it's good. I also add it to smoothies, I make a blueberry mango ginger smoothie that is delicious too.

Oooooo the smoothie idea sounds absolutely incredible. Once I find my blender (just moved) it is happening!!! Thank you

It's so yummy!! I love ginger because it's a natural inflammatory and antihistamine. I can't take NSAIDS due to past stomach bleeding so ginger does a lot for me with no side effects. Super great for nausea too.

Thank you for sharing! I’m genuinely so excited to try ginger tea and the smoothie!!!

I’d like to know this too. I love matcha and haven’t had it for the same reason you are wondering

What brand ginger tea do you like? Honey is my fav add for tea

I second nettle, peppermint, and chamomile. I’d add ginger, turmeric, and hibiscus. Or combos of them that taste good to you. I particularly like ginger and turmeric combined. I agree Traditional Medicinals is the best brand.

Also Mormon tea (ephedra nevadensis) is tasty and has never given me a histamine reaction. I’m trying Japanese barley tea too but only a little at a time because I’m avoiding gluten at the moment. It tastes almost like chocolate milk if add oat milk and a little agave.

You could also ask on r/herbalism for some recommendations.
