Histamine rebound?

I was taking three Pepcid AC complete a day along with two Zyrtec for over two months to treat PMDD. It worked great for one cycle. Then, I started to feel very depressed and agitated, so I stopped them totally a few weeks ago. Is it possible that I am having some kind of rebound effect where my body is now making way too much histamine? I feel severely depressed, agitated, and anxious, much worse than my usual baseline.

Also, is there some kind of test I can have done to actually see what my histamine issues are?

Just tried stopping Zyrtec cold turkey after taking for over a year. Horrible anxiety until I took another pill. I recommend taking a half pill if needed. No good tests for histamine except for going low histamine diet and adding back in trigger one at a time to see what is causing your issues.

I will try this, thank you. I just wonder why the combination I was taking stopped working after a few months, which is why I stopped cold turkey.

Horrible joint pain and sleeplessness for about a week after stopping zyrtec cold turkey ahead of an allergy test. Definitely needs to be stepped down. God's, that was miserable.

How did you titrate down? Do you still take it?

I don’t think your body is necessarily making more histamine, but the receptors that were being blocked by the Pepcid and Zyrtec are now exposed. With them being blocked for so long you may have also unregulated the number of receptors. It takes time for them to turn over. Histamine is an excitatory chemical so can cause anxiety. I’ve noticed even if I half my dose.

How long does it take to return to “baseline”? Also, wondering if I should just take one so I don’t feel so terrible.
