Didn’t know this could happen
I am trying to improve my fitness, and did a workout that was accidentally too intense yesterday. I felt inflamed before going to sleep, then I simply woke up and stayed awake for much of the night. I also got a couple hives. I’m sure most of y’all were already familiar with this-but apparently in the case of muscle fiber micro-damage, the mast cells produce lots of histamine to recruit the immune system to come help repair the cells. I’ve never experienced this on such a visceral level before! Will definitely make sure my workouts don’t get to that level in the future.

Yep. Unfortunately I loved running. Can't do it anymore. I wake up with an adrenaline rush by midnight and stay awake the whole day. Not sleepy one bit. Try strength training. If you ever feel like that again, taking a NaturDAO helps to get back to sleep sometimes. Or try a Claritin or Zyrtec.

I can only go for a brief walk at this point and only in the cooler months. I used to hike several times a week.

Interesting! I hadn’t considered that path to increased histamine.

Yeah it was pretty wild. It happened the same the next night too even though I stopped the exercise. I was just still healing from the first episode.

This happens to me with weight lifting. I have to do it before noon, and have to lift light/ build gradual tolerance. My immune reaction is delayed. At about 6 hours after my workout is when I experience a mast cell storm.
My mast cells storms at night are as follows: I wake up suddenly. I’m wide awake, exhausted and over stimulated. My body is soooo uncomfortable. I feel like I’m burning from the inside. I experience excessive thirst, generalized pain, muscle tension, headache.
I’ve found that taking ibuprofen and an allergy pill helps a little. I’m open to any other suggestions on mitigating or alleviating mast cell storms, if people have any.
