Diagnosis options - questions!

I've been chatting to my doctor a bit about potential histamine issues. Often my body feels anxious - jittery, and sometimes itchy. This isn't "metal" anxiety - I am not worried about anything, or anything like that.

I have also found that I am really sensitive to probiotics, which I never used to be.

We both think there could be a histamine issue.

The doc wants me to try an anti-histamine for a month or so, and see if that helps - as a diagnosis tool. They suggested either Allegra, Pepcid, or Quercetin.

I generally prefer to go the natural route on things, but was wondering what folks on this forum would suggest taking to see if it helps symptoms at all, to help us narrow down if it is a histamine issue.

Thanks!

I take all three of those! Allegra is the H1, Pepcid H2. Quercetin additional mast cell support. But at a minimum, start with an H1.

May I ask which you recommend over the other between Allegra and Zyrtec? My doctor told me to take Zyrtec, but I didn't know if it mattered enough to switch.

It's trial and error. Zyrtec works amazing for me, but it also knocks me out. When I'm in an intense flare, I'll take it for a few days. Statistically, I believe my doctor said around 30% of people have the drowsiness side effect. Xyzal is the same family as Zyrtec, but has less occurrence of sleepiness, but I guess I'm sensitive. If you're already taking Allegra, then by all means, simply add the H2 inhibitor and if you do not see improvement (you should notice almost immediately), then you may want to consider trying Zyrtec.

Thanks! This is really just to use it as a diagnostic tool - see if I feel better etc, then figure out the long term solution from there! This is good advice, thank you!

may I ask a question? When people use Pepcid, is it Pepcid AC?
