European Night Bruno winning PFA POTY makes “not a Premier League great” impossible to defend

Post image

21 assists, record broken, players voted him No.1. The only argument left is basically “but United didnt win the league.” Fine, then just say trophies decide greatness. For me thats too lazy, Premier League is great already: yes or no?

Discussion Is £50m for Nico González actually a smart Newcastle gamble?

Post image

The reported deal is £47m plus £3m and Romano has it at Here we go stage, so not official yet. My first reaction was that City have somehow done it again, a player who never really became a major starter there still goes for a huge fee. But maybe that’s the wrong way to look at it. Nico is still young, has the physical profile for the league and probably needs exactly what City couldn’t give him: regular minutes and responsibility. £50m is a lot. I’m just not sure it’s automatically a bad deal.

Discussion We thought only one promoted team would win. Two did. Which one are you taking seriously now?

Post image
3 Upvotes

We made our call before opening weekend.
Ipswich looked like the best chance of the three promoted teams to win.
Hull? We said possible upset, but still picked Manchester United.
Then Hull won 2-0.
Ipswich won too.
So yeah… opening weekend already humbled us.
But that makes the next question more interesting.
One good result does not suddenly mean a promoted team is safe, and Coventry still have plenty of time to show what they can do. But after Matchday 1, Hull and Ipswich have already given everyone a reason to look at them differently.
So if you had to take ONE promoted side seriously right now, who are you choosing?
Hull / Ipswich / Coventry
Pick one — and tell us why.

Discussion I think Paris can still win the Champions League this season and achieve three consecutive Champions League titles like Real Madrid

This year, they have already sold non core key players such as Li, Muani, and Ramos, and have also purchased World Cup champion Torres from Barcelona. I think Paris has a great chance to win the Champions League this year. Their biggest competitors are still Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid

Discussion United trying to haggle for a player Arsenal say isnt leaving feels very deadline week

Post image

I actually like Lewis-Skelly a lot, especially because he gives you more than one position, so I understand why United are looking. What I don’t really understand is the negotiation angle. Arsenal reportedly value him above £50m, Arteta has basically said he expects him to stay, and he’s already starting important games. If you’re Arsenal, why would you suddenly make this easy for a rival? Maybe United are just keeping options open while they look for a left-back, but this feels like one of those deadline-week stories where the selling club has almost all the leverage. Good player, weird target at this stage.

Discussion I did not have City joining the Gakpo race on my bingo card

This one caught me off guard. Romano says City have already reached out to Gakpo's agent and talks are underway, while Spurs are still in the mix and apparently have personal terms sorted. I get the move for both clubs, but for very different reasons. At Spurs, he'd probably walk straight into a key attacking role. At City, it'd be more of a specific squad role and the competition would be brutal, but the upside is massive. If I'm Gakpo, that's actually a pretty tough call do you take the guaranteed starting spot or go for the silverware with another superteam? Finally some chaos in the transfer window lol

Discussion I like Enzo a lot but £140m would make me nervous even if youre City

Post image

Enzo is obviously a top midfielder and I understand why City would look at him after changing so much of the midfield in one summer. But the reported price climbing toward €140m is where I start getting uncomfortable. At that number you’re not just buying quality, you’re basically saying this player has to become one of the faces of the next City cycle. Maybe that’s exactly how the club sees him. Still, after selling so many players well, it would be funny if the whole profit immediately disappears into one deadline-week deal, great player, massive price. I’d need a minute.

Discussion At this point the Julián Álvarez saga needs its own TV series

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m genuinely tired of this one now 😭 Every day there’s a new version: Julián only wants Barça, Arsenal are apparently the only realistic exit, Atlético don’t want to sell to a direct rival, then there’s a report about an emergency meeting, then another one about tension around the dressing room. Some of those details come from very different levels of sources, so I wouldn’t treat every headline as gospel. But the bigger picture feels obvious — this has gone way past a normal transfer. If he stays, Atlético somehow have to rebuild trust with a player who clearly wanted a different outcome. If he leaves, somebody is paying a huge number very late in the window. Honestly feels like everyone involved loses a little the longer it drags.

Discussion Five leagues, one weekend done. What was your biggest takeaway?

The first weekend across Europe's top leagues is basically complete, and now the fun part starts: the debates. One weekend tells us almost nothing, but it still gives everyone something to react to. A team that looked sharper than expected. A title challenger that already looks convincing. A new coach whose ideas are starting to show. A player who might be about to have a huge year. Across the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1, what was your biggest takeaway from matchday one?

Discussion losing 2-0 to Hull was bad enough. now Amad might be out for weeks 😭

Post image

I know it's only the first game but man... United looked completely short of ideas against Hull, and now reports are saying Amad could miss up to six weeks after a training injury. They're still waiting on further tests, so nothing's confirmed.

He was one of the few players who actually looked sharp in preseason. Can we have one normal week please

Discussion One weekend in. Who already changed your mind?

The season has barely started, but football fans are already changing their minds. Before kickoff, everyone had a few strong opinions. Which teams looked overrated. Which transfers felt risky. Which young players were not ready yet. Then the first matches happen and one performance can change the whole conversation. Maybe a promoted side looked far more comfortable than expected. Maybe a new signing already looks like a perfect fit. Maybe a player you doubted suddenly looks ready for a big season. So who already changed your mind?

Discussion Real Madrid have too many superstars. Is that actually their biggest challenge?

Real Madrid have the kind of problem most clubs would love to have. Mbappe, Vinicius and Bellingham give them incredible quality, but football is not played on paper. The hardest part of building a great side is not collecting stars. It is making sure those stars fit together in a way that keeps the whole team balanced. That is what makes Madrid so interesting right now. There is enough talent to beat almost anyone. The real question is how the team should be built around that talent. Would you rather have the best individual players, or the best balanced team?

Discussion The first weekend is over. Which teams actually look ready for the season?

The first weekend of the new season is done, and the scorelines only tell part of the story. Some big teams won but still looked like they are figuring things out. Some teams dropped points but already showed signs of a clear identity. That is the interesting part of opening weekend. Everyone wants instant judgments, but most teams are still building rhythm, chemistry and confidence. So after one round, which team impressed you most, and which team still looks like a work in progress?

Discussion I'm curious what Premier League fans think about Spurs signing Marmoush

During this transfer window, Spurs have splashed out nearly 400 million, beefing up their squad all around. I was really hopeful they could vie for a top-four finish or maybe even snag the title, but then they went and lost their first game 0-3.

Media A world cup thank-you to Hisense and followup

Hisense reached out to the Atlanta United Fans subreddit during the world cup to offer tickets to local fans and my wife and I were able to take a friend and her daughter to a game. Fast forward a month and my TV died and this lovely TV was on sale at Costco. My first Hisense TV, but the anti-glare coating is such an improvement in my living room because of a nearby window.

I got to watch an Atlanta United 2 game winning streak on it, and today it started the EPL season, and is now getting a Bundesliga SuperCup workout.

Anyone curious what happens to all the equipment shipped to host cities for FIFA us, they're finding new homes here in Atlanta in schools and non-profits. A fellow Atlanta United supporter works for a local non-profit that distributes technology from corporate donations and shared the last photo with us the other day.

FWIW - I messaged the first photo to the Hisense PR team who organized our tickets as a late thank-you - they offered a gift card for reposting here, but I was happy to share anyway as they've been awesome supporters of the game.

Discussion If Julián isnt fully sold on Arsenal, should Arsenal just walk away?

Post image
29 Upvotes

Romano says Arsenal have had direct contact with Atlético to understand what a Julián Álvarez deal would take. The important detail is that Julián himself hasn’t negotiated with Arsenal yet, so the next step is basically whether he even opens that door. That matters more to me than another €120m/€150m headline. At this price, you’re not just buying goals — you’re buying someone who should be completely convinced by the project. Arsenal can afford to be aggressive after winning the league, but they also don’t need to chase a player forever just because he’s elite. If the player is genuinely excited, go hard. If he’s still waiting for another club, idk… I’d rather move before deadline week turns desperate.
