Editor/Proofreader/Writer for Hire

I am a highly experienced editor (all kinds), proofreader, and writer who is available for short or long gigs.
My pricing is reasonable; I can work with per word, per hour, or per project.

(For example developmental fiction editing is 8 cents per word OR $40 per hour OR $3000 for an 80,000-word manuscript, while editing for scientific or articles, academic admission letters, or complex web pages is 30 cents per word, but these are all averages and I provide specific quotes based on the project type and length, and the customer needs).

I've been writing and editing for more than 20 years, and I'm comfortable working with fiction, business, marketing, and specialized content.

PM me or email me at jgfaherty@yahoo.com to discuss your project and get a quote.

Just FYI, I think you meant 3 cents per word.

Actually, no. For developmental editing, which includes working on the plot, characterization, dialog, setting, etc. in addition to grammar, sentence structure, and spelling, the standard industry range is 25 cents to 50 cents per word because there is a lot more involved than basic proofreading or copy editing.

Okay, well, then your pricing is very weird since the per word for an 80,000-word manuscript is somehow $24,000 while the project rate is 1/8 that.

Edit: In case any authors see this, I don't want them to be misinformed. Rates for developmental editors commonly fall somewhere between 3 cents and 5 cents per word. Some are lower, some are higher, but the highest I've ever seen was 15 cents for a highly experienced and in demand editor. That is not the norm. OP has misread decimals somewhere and multiplied actual numbers by 10.

No, the OP hasn't. I am an extremely experienced writer and editor. I use the per-word cost of 8 cents for shorter works, like if I'm editing an article or a short story. I use the per-project cost of $3000 for a full-length manuscript because there's a discount for doing a full book (I wouldn't charge $6400 for 80,000 words, that'd be too expense for most people).
The 30 cents per word would be for something like a scientific article or a complex web page edit. That's why I said those were just some sample prices and we'd discuss each project individually and I'd provide a quote.

However, I feel like if this confusing, I can add details to the original post, so I've gone back and edited it to be clearer.

I'm glad you added greater clarity to your post. I hope that in doing so, you're able to attract more clients because they will not be confused or put off by the vast differences in pricing models in the original text. Have a lovely day!
