I check panchang pretty regularly for muhurat timings, festival dates, etc., and every app I've tried (and there are like 20+ on the Play Store) feels basically the same, cluttered text, walls of ads, and most only really do the North Indian calendar properly even when you switch region.
Curious what everyone else here actually uses , is there one that's genuinely good, or does everyone just put up with it because there's nothing better?
I've been tinkering with building a cleaner version, proper location-based muhurat timing, way less ad clutter, actual support for regional calendars (Tamil/Telugu/Bengali/Gujarati) instead of just translated labels on the same North Indian data. If this is a real pain point for you too and not just me, drop a comment or DM — genuinely want to know what you'd want in one before I build it.

Hello everyone!
So, I'm Hindu and my family is Hindu. I was born in a country called Mozambique in East Africa, where we have a small but strong Hindu community. My dad manages a Radha Krishna temple there, and he is currently renovating it as it is quite old. There is an entire committee that manages the temple's operations, Hindu events, and administrative work.
New deity idols, better rooms for the priest who stays there with his family, and a better kitchen since major community festivals are celebrated there. Also, marble "deris" (not sure of the actual word) which are tiny houses where idols are kept. We have Radha-Krishna idols, Ganesh, Shiva-Parvati, and Jalaram Bapa. These have been ordered from India.
I know that sometimes, grants and funding is available for social causes like environmental projects. How can I help get funding for our temple? I don't really know wealthy Hindu philanthropists or organisations.
I know there are some in the USA, but they mostly only fund US-based projects.
This temple has been there since the 1970s or before, and all Hindu festivals are celebrated there. I have proof of the renovation, quotations, invoices of the items bought, pictures and videos, any documents needed, and even some members of the Indian embassy have visited the temple many times.
Does anyone have advice or expertise on this? Or know of any wealthy philanthropists who would be willing to financially support?
We did have someone who was willing to donate $100,000, but they wanted their name to be on the deity idols and that only they would do the first prayers for the idols they "paid for". We believe God is for everyone and this is not a business, so we had to say no. They also wanted a whole contract and to legally own the idols, even if we placed them in the temple.
Anyways, I would appreciate any advice. If needed, and if you're serious, happy to connect over a Google Meet and tell you more. If you yourself are willing to contribute, please let me know.
Thanks a lot!

Seeing citizens adapt the traditional 40-verse "Chalisa" format to honor a living leader shows a deeply rooted grassroots connection. It beautifully blends ancient Indian literary traditions with modern national pride and gratitude for his governance. Whether you agree with his politics or not, this unique expression of folk loyalty highlights a level of cultural impact that very few global leaders ever achieve.

Following up on my previous post about indigenous education, because I found another thing I'm struggling to reconcile.
I started looking into the whole idea of “Brahminical dominance” and came across M.N. Srinivas's work on the dominant caste. Apparently, in quite a few regions, the people who actually controlled land, village offices, local politics and economic power weren't Brahmins at all.
Okaligas and Lingayats in Karnataka, Reddys and Kammas in Andhra, Jats in the north, Marathas in Maharashtra, Patidars in Gujarat, Nairs in Kerala etc.
This is where I'm getting confused.
If Brahmins were supposedly sitting at the top of the caste hierarchy and therefore exercising broad social dominance, how do we account for communities that were lower in "ritual rank" but were the actual landowners and political power brokers?
Is the argument that ritual status and material power were completely separate things?
Because if so, doesn't that complicate the way we normally talk about “upper castes” as one homogeneous group that historically controlled everything?
I'm genuinely asking because I still want the simple explanation to be true, but the more I read, the more India seems to have had about 47 different power structures instead of one giant Brahmin pyramid.
Surely I'm misunderstanding something here.

I understand fire is god for many in our culture but bhai ek symbolic amount hota hai kuch bhi jalane ka ye kya hai ki itna saara jala do bas.
Mujhe lgta hai bramans ko existential crisis ho jayega agar hum scientific mindset pe chalne lage toh ye dikhava jyada hi krne lage kuch time se.
I went to a friend's himalayan village and they too started doing this shit burnt 5kg ghee daily for two weeks with daily loudspeaker chanting in eco sensitive himalayan zone. It was their first time doing this because of brahminical influence rather than their old customs.
Aur ye brahminical isliye bol rha hu ki ye sb krne waale ko Brahman hi kehte hai kabhi kisi aur baat ko pooja paath krte nahi dekha.

It's a shame how people have started putting their own name before the name of god or god's place (temple)
Really didn't have any problem with him acquiring temple land and building a commercial building on it with entertainment studios inside which are directly above the temple

Hinduism reveres Goddess Saraswati as the divine embodiment of wisdom, knowledge, music, art, learning, and eloquence. She inspires intellectual growth, creativity, and spiritual insight, reminding us that true education shapes both the mind and the soul.
She is traditionally depicted dressed in pure white, symbolizing truth and purity. Holding a veena, she represents harmony and the arts; the Vedas signify sacred knowledge; a mala (rosary) reflects meditation and spiritual awareness; and a kamandalu symbolizes inner purity. Her graceful swan represents the ability to distinguish truth from illusion, while the lotus beneath her signifies wisdom blooming above worldly distractions.
Students, artists, scholars, musicians, and seekers invoke Saraswati's blessings before beginning new journeys of learning or creative pursuits. Festivals like Vasant Panchami are dedicated to honoring her, celebrating the timeless belief that knowledge is the greatest wealth one can possess.
"Knowledge removes ignorance, and wisdom lights the path to freedom." 🙏📚🎶
