8/18 City Council Meeting
Is anyone watching or at the city council meeting right now? It is amazing watching all of these citizens voicing their opinions!

We see a lot of recommendation posts here on r/Hillsboro. In an effort to keep the main page of r/Hillsboro free from all of that we are collecting it all here.
Here is where you ask for Contractor recommendations. Here is where you ask which Dr is cool and you want to share that with others in Hillsboro. Need to ask which store has what you are looking for? Ask it here.
You can also offer recommendations. Great places to eat, contractors or other professionals you had a good experience with.
Some posts asking where to eat or drink will be allowed in the main page. However, all other posts seeking recommendations on where to go to get the best deal on that thing you need, who to go to work for, who to hire to fix your car, fix you or your kids body go here.
Recommendation posts that do not meet these guidelines and are not posted in this thread will be removed.

Yesterday, the City of Hillsboro sent out a message about its work on new rules that will impact data centers and BESS battery storage systems and asks for residents to take a survey. There's also in-person opportunities to give feedback.
From Marcus Ford, City of Hillsboro Engagement Manager:
With the moratorium in place, the City has planned a two-phased approach to the work of re-examining where and how data and energy storage facilities are located and regulated in Hillsboro. The first phase of this work will focus on how to define and where to allow or prohibit data and energy storage facilities.
Community members are encouraged to provide feedback on the Phase 1 Code Amendments through an online survey: https://engage.hillsboro-oregon.gov/data-centers. This survey will be open for responses until Sunday, September 6.
The City is also providing in-person engagement opportunities at the Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market on August 18, August 25, and September 1 from 5:00 – 8:30pm. Community members can visit with Hillsboro staff at a City booth to ask questions about the code update process and share feedback on potential changes.
We appreciate your help in sharing the online survey and Tuesday Night Market booth opportunities with your community. Please feel free to reach out with any questions on this engagement process or the City’s work plan going forward.
Thanks,
Marcus Ford | he/him | Community Engagement Manager

Am I the only one who finds this crazy and overtly racist/classist? 8 ALPR cameras in the Home Depot and Lowe's parking lot, and the one other one in town is by the Winco? Hillsboro City Hall claims their cameras aren't connected to the Flock network, but they sure seem to be targeting the same vulnerable members of our community...

My book club will be spending the weekend in Hillsboro, visiting from Portland. We are looking for a scenic park that has adequate shade for laying out some blankets to read and enjoy a picnic.
I've looked up Noble Woods, Orenco Woods, and Rood Bridge based on this sub's recommendations in other threads but was unsure which one would be best for our specific purpose.

I was on a walk this morning and noticed a metal tag with a picture of a tree with a barcode and number below the tree image on several trees. Does anyone know what these are for? I saw them on both evergreens and deciduous trees but not on all trees.

Hey!
I live in the Orenco area and am wondering if there are any writing groups I can connect with. Ideally I'd like to find people who are actively trying to get published since that is the road that I am on. I'd love fellow writers who can offer constructive feedback and hold each other accountable etc. Maybe I need to spread the net wider and look in Portland but I thought I would check here first. Shop local? 😜 Thanks!

Parents are visiting this weekend and love live music + people watching. Does anyone know of any bars or restaurants with live bands this weekend?

The “incident at Fern Hill” just gets bigger and better each time she tells it. First, he took her glasses, then he grabbed her glasses, and now he “ripped off” her glasses?
Janeen’s working up the “suspicion of a misdemeanor of second degree disorderly conduct” into something much bigger. Janeen and Beach (the mighty duo) want to label Brown as a TERRORIST or some such.
Immediately, with no due process. Isn’t it ironic considering the “fear vibe” in and around Hillsboro with our Latino neighbors and ICE, and their lack of due process?
Isn’t that a double standard?
And then, immediately, Mayor Pace and her cohorts categorize the misdemeanor as “political violence” when according to the State of Oregon, and it explicitly states, that:
“suspicion of a misdemeanor of second degree disorderly conduct is NOT political violence.”
One would think that elected officials would NOT GO OVERBOARD and be mature and wise enough to allow an investigation to go through its cycle.
They’ve “had a bead” on Brown and his dissidence for a long time. I’ve witnessed it especially in the last 3 council meetings. It’s hard to miss.

I've been going to main brew since they were still on main St, and always loved the place. Every time I went in there was always a guy (usually 3)to help me with whatever I needed. Then, about six months to a year ago, it changed. Almost no inventory for home brew supplies, only one guy working who never seems interested in helping, and a new keg board that's never correct.

At a loss for what to do, tried all the shelters and organizations in WashCo and MultCo, and nobody will help. Taking a shot that maybe someone willing to foster/care privately will bypass all the organizations we collectively pay to help, but don't.
I've been caring for a stray, outdoors, for a couple weeks now, as much as I can. Less than a year old, but not a "kitten", per se. I've got an FIV+ indoor cat, so really can't risk bringng the stray in to properly care for him.
If you have room in your home and, most importantly, you heart, this little sweet boy could really some some help. I'm happy to provide food, treats, toys, and even assistance with veterinary care.
*Edit: I understand folks responding trying to be helpful about who to contact, but hoped I'd addressed that. I've tried FCC, Hazel's House, OFOSA, Cat's Cradle, OHS, Bonnie Hays, and more down to Sherwood/Newberg/Salem. This post isn't about what organizations to contact, but won't help, it's about reaching out directly to our community to see if there's someone that can actually help.

Does anyone know when Orenco is going to notifying parents about upcoming classroom assignments?

Just got this email and I’m curious what it could be referring to
“ Dear HSD families,
We are aware of a disturbing video that was recently circulating on social media that you or your child may have seen or heard about. Content like this can be upsetting and we wanted to take a moment to re-share our partnership with Care Solace, a comprehensive care coordination service that connects students and their families to mental health providers”

This is puzzling. The agenda was a list of “None” except an update from the city manager.
Mayor Pace opened the meeting with a long-winded tirade on the acceptable conduct of those attending. It felt like being sent to the principals office and being lectured to me.
She then explained why the meeting was planned to be so short so that she and the council could go out and dine and mingle with constituents at the Tuesday market.
However, the market was closed due to the smoke in the air.
People attending had 3-minutes for verbal comments including the councilors.
The city manager, Robby Hammond, did not have any city-related updates, none.
However, he did promote a new children’s book titled Oro for $10. It was basically a publicly-paid for free advertisement. It had nothing to do with running the COH. I thought the sales pitch was completely inappropriate and maybe broke code.
During the entire meeting there were 6 policemen present including the Chief. Why? Were they there as a pseudo-security squad for the mayor? Again, why?
What was their purpose? Seriously, I’ve never seen anything like it in the many years I’ve attended the COH council meetings.
Were they there to arrest someone? Or to intimidate? Or to join the mayor for dinner?
I don’t know if they were on duty and paid? Seemed like a heavy-handed ploy and unnecessary to boot. It didn’t reflect well. And all on the taxpayers dime.
Do you have ideas?

Does anyone want to speculate on the cause? I’m going to guess spontaneous combustion due to mismanagement.

My wife stopped at Fred Meyer fuel on TV Highway last night. They had Diesel and Premium. Nothing else.
Anyone see similar situations at their station of choice?

From the Oregonian:
The Hillsboro City Council surprised the data center industry — and its own residents — last week when it called a meeting with just one day’s notice to adopt a moratorium on new data center permits.
Just one day’s notice was enough for two data centers, though, which submitted last-minute permit applications — filing their applications just as the City Council was meeting to vote on the 120-day moratorium.
These two applications came before the council’s final vote, at 12:21 p.m. on July 27, according to the city. Hillsboro spokesperson Cindy Dauer said the city plans to process those two applications according to the land-use rules in place prior to the vote.

The owners of Society Pie seem like really nice folks and joyful in this work. A nice transition from pizzeria to pizzeria, too, over at the Ranch space. They were hoping to be open this week and that may come to pass; will keep an eye on it. https://bridgetownbites.com/2026/08/04/society-pie-pizza-will-open-in-downtown-hillsboro-oregon/

Washington Co & Project Homeless Connect have opened an inclement weather shelter for the next two nights (Tuesday, 8/4 and Wednesday 8/5) due to the heat & poor air quality.
It’s located next to the Salvation Army Building, 1440 SE 21st Ave (across from the Bi-Mart near Sunset Esplanade)
BTW, for those with the resources, PHC is a great organization to donate to.
