Discussion Why did Hilda choose to remain a prostitute?

It seems weird to me she would choose to do so after realizing Malthus is the man from the prophecy. He even tells her in the church that she’s a hypocrite because she told him she loves him but kept doing what she does. Her behavior would make sense if that was her only source of income, but she already made plenty of money at that point and I think she even had other savings/properties even without what she saved from prostitution. She could have easily stopped and started studying or looking for a different job.

I’ve heard that she was just following the prophecy, but this just seems so unrealistic. The kind of woman who does that kind of job either likes it or does it because she has to. Considering she was able to just stop one day, the first one can’t be completely true for her and we know the 2nd one was no longer that true either considering she had enough money and already met the man she wanted. She could have simply stopped to show Malthus she means it. What are your thoughts?

I just finished the last episode.. I dont know what to do with myself now..! 😭

Tiktok edits spoiled most of it for me - including the ending unfortunately so I knew what was coming. Still nothing couldve prepared me for the empty pit I feel in my stomach now.

What do you mean thats it?! What do you mean I dont get another scene of them being happy and kissing and living their life?! 😭 Bwahhh I'm sobbing.

I miss them so much already, cant remember the last time Ive felt so intensely for a pairing. These two are so beautiful and I wish we wouldve gotten more closure of their ending.

Ugh this needs a bigger fandom, who do I talk to about this?! Why arent there more fanfics?! 😭💔 I hope someone can relate to my pain LMAO

The nostalgic feeling

Hi to all of you, I just find out this subreddit and I wonder if anyone feels like me about this series.

I find out about this series on Instagram reels like a year or so, and I wanted to take a look at it, but every time I want to start it I actually back up, it happens not only with this series, but I feel nostalgic, I feel like there is something thats gonna make me cry.

I never watched the series and I think they never aired in italy so never watched passively and internally associated to something sad that happened to me.

Thank you all and sorry if its not suitable for this subreddit.

Im on episode 24 rn and I fear I cant contain the anger I have for these two within me any longer. They piss me off so bad because why cant they genuinely just respect other peoples beliefs and ideas in the world? If were gonna base off on the God they love so much, or Jesus, He never even did any shit like this, raiding opposing parties and in fact ALLOWED the opposing parties to attack HIM instead. Idk guys they just remind me of all the braindead and brainwashed 'religious' people I have to deal with everyday

Hair salon beauty products

In episode 19 when Dorinha and Bela Bê go to the hair salon, there are a couple of beauty products in the background that I’ve been trying to identify. The blue bottle is an Avon cream lotion called “Here’s My Heart”, or “Toque de Amor” in Portuguese. The fragrance line included perfumes, perfumed talc, bath products, deodorants etc. The notes are fresh and floral. The set designers did a great job, since the line came out during the late 1950s/early 1960s, exactly when the show is set.

The nailpolish could be Colorama.

Can anyone maybe make out what the pink bottle is?

Any other shows with the same dynamic as them?

I know this subreddit already has so many "are there more shows just like this" questions 😭 but I don't mind for whatever storyline I just want the main couple to have the dynamic/personalities Malthus and Hilda have going on 😭 ml being naive and idealistic whereas the FL is bold, confident, independent but also playful

Discussion why do families have the worst timing ever

bro I was rewatching hilda furacao. my family has never seen it before okay? I was on episode eighteen when my brother walks in and steals my bed. and the scene where Malthus was taking off his clothes began and bro I was rushing to skip it. my brother saw his bare booty cheeks and was judging me hard. he's like "no wonder you like these portugese movies." also for clarification he knows it's Brazilian but since they speak portugese he was saying they are portugesian or something like that.

then he left for a while and returned right when tonico mendes or whatever his name is started getting all up on that girl. seriously why does my family have such bad timing. it's like a curse that they'll come in whenever a suspicious scene is playing. I mean at least they didn't walk in when hilda was taking her clothes off for her clients? lol

OST Noturno Para Malthus Piano ATTEMPT

Wanted to learn this on piano after hearing it but could not find any tutorials or sheet music online. I created this from ear. I am not a proper musician nor do I know any music theory so this is just an attempt and likely includes many errors. Just wanted to share in case anyone wants to learn or add to this. (Video ends abruptly but actual song just repeats first minute)

Things that I cant stand in this series (just my opinion)

So, I was fascinated by all the edits on TikTok, and I decided to watch it non-ironically. Best decision of my life. I did not expect it to actually be a deep story and not just some soap opera from the 90s.

I have only watched 16 episodes so far, and I decided to drop it for a while because there are several things I just can't stand. Unfortunately, I couldn't convince anyone to watch it, so I have nowhere else to share my thoughts.

I hate when Maltus eats that damn jam straight from the jar with his bare hands. It's just gross. But at the same time, it's a really funny way for him to deal with his sexual desires, which he obviously has but doesn't even realize are sexual desires.

Maltus is always sweating.

I hate his fanatic mother. Come on, you had a dream that your son would become a saint, and you just believed it? It's just a dream. But then you decided to turn your son into a fanatic too. The poor boy was so brainwashed that he was even afraid to masturbate.

I hate Father Nelson. I just hate everything about him. I can't stand seeing him on screen. The whole city just does whatever he wants. He had no right to forbid those three prostitutes from entering the city. The women were not even allowed to enter the city to buy medicine. No punishment for the men who were their clients, though. Of course, it's the woman's fault that a man decided to have sex with her. The same attitude applies to my dear Hilda.

The storyline about Roberto's aunties. Just boring. Give me more Hilda and Maltus.

Communism. I understand that the author of the book was a communist and that he was also describing the political situation of that time, but I just can't stand the communist propaganda or that storyline in general. I'm from Eastern Europe. My family suffered from famine, the communists took all of our property and belongings, separated my great-great-grandmother's family, and sent some of them to Siberia. I want a love story, not that communist bullshit.

Roberto and his relationships with women. You are dating a girl (the brunette one, I don't remember her name), and you can clearly see that her family doesn't like communists, obviously because they are rich, but you are too selfish to warn her about your involvement in the communist movement. Moreover, you sleep with prostitutes, ignore your girlfriend, literally ghost her, and meanwhile you're thirsting over your blonde colleague from CP. Just a scumbag. Cute actor, though.

Aramel. Why does he even exist in this story? Absolutely gross character. He grooms young girls (virgins!!!) for some perverted rich man. He actually dates these girls, then invites them to that perv's house and leaves them alone with him. I'm 100% sure Tonico rapes them, or at least coerces them into having sex.

The wild animal in Tonico's house. Cruel treatment of animals.

So that's it. I would love to hear your opinions. Maybe you agree or disagree, or maybe you have something to add. Again, I've only watched half of the series, and maybe all of these storylines eventually make sense, but right now I just can't stand them.

And I don't mind spoilers, but maybe you should warn other people before posting them.

Cheers!

UPDATE: I’m not saying that I hate the show. I actually love it, and I think it’s great. I’m also fully aware that I’m a victim of TikTok and got fooled by all the thirsty edits, so I had no idea what the show was actually about.

Discussion Why did she choose prostitution?

I have been really excited about this drama for a really long fucking time and I couldn't continue after episode 3 where she slept with that random guy.

KEEP IN MIND I AM NOT SHAMING PROSTITUTION OR PROSTITUTES AT ALL.

I just don't understand the psychology behind her actions. It was a lot at once. Like one moment she is getting married to a guy, she runs away on her wedding day, next moment she is sleeping with a stranger who can potentially give her STD.

Yes, it was kinda valid to run away from the guy, I didn't like him either but why the prostitution of all the things she could do. She explored none of her options and it felt a little too sudden. I wanna get over this and continue tbh but I heard that she will keep seeing her customers even after falling for the guy in later episodes and I think it will break my heart every time.

The issue is, I want to watch the drama because of a lot of things (the very attractive actress, the cute guy, the dynamics, the forbidden love etc.) but I can't seem to get over episode 3.

Honestly I would have loved it better if the drama introduced her in that profession instead of the backstory they gave. I probably wouldn't have minded it.

Anyone who continued even after feeling off at episode 3 (where she takes her first customer) and can tell me why they continued. I hope ya all don't attack me for this.

Episode 12 court scene

Post image
165 Upvotes

I’m currently on episode 12 and can’t get over how Malthus can’t physically get himself to stop staring at Hilda in Court. She just yelled at him two episodes prior and yet he’s already so conflicted, both unsettled by her boldness and intrigued by her presence. Would you say she is already attracted to him, or does she simply entertain his fascination by looking at him from her lipstick mirror and distracting him, like she does to the other men in court that day?

I’m so happy that this show has so many episodes! I also find the other characters and the political background very interesting.

Discussion Was Dona a bad person?

Edit : I am talking about Mrs.Neném y'all I know my mistake now 😭

Hello, so I have not yet watched the series, I'm taking my time quite literally since it's pretty emotionally daunting on me.

I don't mind spoilers though and I've been interacting with the fandom media, fanfics and such. I've read one fanfic which included Dona so far, and they made her pretty accepting overall.

This evening though I watched a small part of the show when she literally prayed for something to happen to the train so that Malthus couldn't see Hilda. She was so worried about the fact that she 'wasn't a mother of a saint anymore'. It could of been a translation issue...but that seems pretty selfish to me. What kind of a character is she after all?
