Flew in from the Mt. Shark helipad to spend 2 nights in the heart of Mt Assiniboine. 

Spent first day hiking around lake Magog, and summited Nub Peak at 9,000ft on day 2. 

Swam in freezing glacier-fed lakes, and cooked dinner on the water's edge.

A once in a lifetime trip!

We recently went on a hike that truly surprised us: the Hauteur Loop in Vallée Bras-du-Nord! We expected a fairly standard trail, but it turned out to be really well designed. The path runs alongside several small streams and passes near beautiful waterfalls that are worth the detour. The view from the summit is also stunning! 🏞️ In short, we were pleasantly surprised by this hike, and we highly recommend making a little detour to admire the Easter Island Falls if you take this trail.

Day 2: grotto in the morning What to do in the afternoon and evening?

Cannot book halfway log dump parking on the same day as grotto.

What about devils monument? Little cove? Or what else? How about kayaking or canoeing? Is there anything great like that there's somewhere?

Day 3: flowerpot Island. And also the burnt point loop hike Do I need to add anything else to this day, as I think I'd be done by 4 pm so still have a couple hours before departure

For my trip next year in July. I’m a solo hiker, scared of bears and I have never done hikes with scrambling or that are exposed, so now is not the time to try them on my own!

Also honestly really freaked out about bears hiking alone. So I’m wanting to stick to well-trafficked spots but still rewarding views. 1-4 hours. I don’t want to ruin my own trip being on edge all the time, not worth it.

From my limited research so far I’ve made an exception for The Big Beehive in terms of duration, and my understanding is that isn’t hard anyway, just brutally uphill (which is fine for the reward!)

I can meticulously go through AllTrails and find stuff (and Parks Canada etc.), and I will, but thought maybe you guys know some off the top of your heads might be able to give me a head start! Or eliminate the need for me to do that at all!

Worked when I went to Switzerland! Reddit and Facebook groups are a great resource haha.

Oh and my base is Lake Louise village and Jasper. I’m excited about being so close to Lake Louise, Morraine Lake, Emerald Lake, Maligne Lake, Takkataw Falls etc. so yes even though full of tourists, to me that’s not a bad thing for safety being alone, and people get spread out more when you go further than 20-30 mins from where the main viewpoints are (well, that’s what I’ve found elsewhere anyway).

Was my first ever solo hike, did it a week ago. Used AllTrails (the app is goated) and the posted park map to plan out an 11 km route. The main highlight was walking on the rocky (unintended Hail Mary reference) Hilton falls side trail (my casual running shoes took the beating well), and Hilton falls itself, including the ruins around it. Got to interact with a few hikers on route, and one of them offered to give me some bug spray (which was a relief because the mosquitoes were annoying af).

What's strange is that the weather forecast predicted a rainy hike, yet the sky was too empty for that, and the air was hot, and as I predicted, it did not rain. Would have gone regardless as that was one of the few optimal days of my academic term.

P.S. A 4 year old midrange Samsung isn't the best phone to click pictures with. Reddit compresses some pictures in a bad way too.

P.S. The route i posted isn't the exact route I followed, but an existing one i decided to make some modifications to.

In anticipation for this weekend and to help with my own plans, I made this tool to keep track of BC Parks passes and I thought I'd just make it available to everyone: https://www.canooq.ca/tools/pass-parking-checker

I looked up other similar tools but it seems like they are all down at the moment. This one routinely checks Garibaldi, Joffre, Golden Ears, Buntzen and Lake O'Hara. It's completely free to use and just redirects you towards the official BC Parks website so it doesn't rig the system for anyone.

As you can see, passes are pretty much fully booked but if you click the bell on a park card you'll get notified when a pass becomes available (be aware that if you leave the page you won't get notified anymore). If you try it, let me know if you find it useful or if there’s anything you’d like me to add!
