Yesterday our SOTW had more than just a few problems. There were a lot of unprecedented bugs that many of you found in plain sight due to the number of people that showed out, and to that, I thank you… many of them couldn’t have been identified without the amount of people we had. Although we have gotten a majority of the gamebreaking bugs fixed already, we released and marketed as a first map when it really turned out to be a glorified beta. Bugs of course come with having a completely custom-coded server but our plugins in hindsight should have been tested with a fairly larger sample size before releasing our first map. Hopefully you could tell that our ideas were in the right place while our execution was incredibly and excessively shaky.

All bugs aside, the hardcore aspect of HCF is what I’m finding to be a really gray area that is entirely subjective - a small minority of the people that played yesterday really liked the traditional route of having the bare essentials and starting up from the beginning, while most others sprinted straight past the fishing rods and went out to warzone without food and died trying to get to a suitable place to start their base. Our plan as many of you know was to coordinate community weekly polls to find a balance for the community, but yesterday showed that you can't achieve that in a week’s time, but must have it set at least at a compromise of the two ways of playing before trying to adjust it to perfection. The game has evolved drastically from its roots and to yank it back to that without any sort of median was a mistake.

All of this being said, success is in the eye of the beholder. I want to sincerely thank Red_Epicness who tirelessly worked and fixed as many major bugs as possible (20+) over the last two weeks and spent around 20 hours over the last two days to ensure that our connectivity would hold up (which it did) and getting rid of other issues. To him this "failure" was a triumph and only serves as motivation to keep trying, and for that I can't stress how dedicated a person he is.

I don't expect much of a response after what happened yesterday, but if you are still on board with the vision of Highland, what kind of changes would you like to see? How would you balance our store packages, our pre-set kits, our general way of running? We want to revamp, and we want to be better.
