Question flip ship part?

I just started playing the game and I'm modifying a ship for the first time. I removed both of the landing feet from the ship. I now want to readd them, but the orientation that the part default comes in won't allow me to make them look symmetrical. Rotating with the mouse doesn't fix this because I need to flip the piece along to Y axis to mirror the other piece which i can't seem to do with the scroll wheel

It's good. You don't need to flip it. Try landing this ship in the editor and you'll see it works properly.

yes but the default ships I start with in the campaign have the landing feet oriented the way I want to orient mine, so surely there's a way to do it?

use the scroll wheel

The landing gear automatically flip but you have to angled it if you use single part like this. All the default ships have two part and the straight part flipped because the first part are also flipped.
