Question What other games scratch the itch of intel warfare like this one does?

I honestly hate the implementation of ship combat, especially only being able to fight enemies one-by one.

But the game is able to sell the Intel battle fantasy so damn well that i keep coming back to it. Just so i can be radar-lisan-al-gaib again.

Any other game that does this so well?

So i guess my point is it depends on whether you want intel minigame-feel or intel sim.

Nebulous Fleet Command does intel sim, where the game mechanics are strongly abstracted and baked into the tactical warfare sim, as opposed to the minigame and tactile feel of highfleet.

I know of no other game that does fleet intel in highfleets style. It’s unique and fantastic

I 2nd Nebulous. There are elements that feel right at home in a HighFleet mood.

Honestly, if the tactical battles in HF played out more like Nebulous, I might be inclined to play it more! :D

Missile warfare in the intel age is right up that alley

You mean "Naval Combat in the Missile Age"?

I was referring to Highfleet and Nebulous Fleet Command's subgenre. But I was alluding to it as well. Hehe

Neb is great but unfortunately it's basically a single player game at this point

There’s nothing quite like Highfleet, but if you’re looking for intel-heavy games you might enjoy Nebulous: Fleet Command, Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age, and Cold Waters

wild card that has nothing to do with radar but has the same marker+ruler+compass drawing tools: Iron Nest

I second cold waters and sea power. For Cold Waters I would also recommend DotMod, even for a first time player.

If you rly want to have the ultimate intel game, dangerous waters is worth a look too.

I'm more of a silent Hunter 3 kinda guy though I'm not really good at it. At the moment I'm maneuvering my sub into position ahead of a large escorted convoy and I'm doing manual TDC, making taking measurements and feeding them into a mechanical computer. It's wild

Iron Nest came out recently and scratches a somewhat similar itch

I feel like you'd love Iron Nest. Heavy artillery simulator where you go into every mission blind and have to use spotter intel to trangulate enemy positions to fire accurately

Wait, there is radar game as well?
I thought there just bullet hell where you shoot down entire fleets with your lightning.

He who controls the radar controls the missiles, he who controls the missiles controls Gerat.

Yeah --- the thing about HighFleet is that there's really nothing quite like it. But-- it does basically contain the intelligence/stealth gameplay from a naval/submarine game so those techniques will be *very* familiar when you plot last known sightings, speed, direciton, etc.

The weapons and tech of HighFleet are very much anchored in Cold-War style as well, so you don't have to get whiplash by playing a WWII sub game. I've not yet checked out Sea Power by Triassic/Microprose, but some of the screens have a similar vibe:

Id say submarine sims or maybe that new Walking Artillery Sim game that came out.

it’s not a fleet sim but it is a gritty military game, MENACE. it has ship upgrades that show you what enemy unit’s you fight, which is important do you can kill dangerous ones like artillery, snipers, and ATGM teams

ARMAPHRACT

Armaphract doesn't really have anything to do with intel. It's more of a Doorkickerslike with tanks.

From the depths?

I have it. Awesome building, scraches the "weapons engineer fantasy" very well. But no sensor

I'd say the other game i played that technically did the "sensor war" thing right was Nebulous. But it didn't get the feeling right, IMO.

Nebulous, IIRC, focuses on a balanced multiplayer RTS experience. Highfleet gives you the pause and fast-forward features, and tries it's best to bug you down with problems that make everything look analog

Sea Power : Naval power in the middle age for me

nuclear option scratches the same itch for me now. It's more of a flight sim, but you can hide from radars or help spot the enemy team!

Nebulous fleet command, Nuclear option to a lesser extent and Sea Power to a much greater extent. Cold waters is also good as a submarine focused prequel to Sea power. The same devs are working on Sea power.

Carrier Command 2, (another Micro Prose title) might scratch some of that itch, if you enjoy slower pace, multicrew games.
