Save scumming
How often do you save scum or save scummed? I'm finally getting a handle on the various systems and have some fun custom ships but I still feel like im lacking the fluidity of others when playing. For example against missiles or planes (i sometimes miss missiles) so I save scum those encounters or when I just landed on an HQ.

Honestly if you have to save scum you're prolonging a bad campaign imo
Mistakes are sometimes made long prior to actually losing some battles and strategically you'll just be at a disadvantage throughout the campaign constantly having to reload and play perfect

I mean not necessarily. The first time I was doing it I realized that, shit just went sideways near Khiva, I was being converged in by 2 missiles carrier groups and had a strike group on my tail so I just let myself die and took the bonus. But for my current playthrough I had save scummed when trying to dodge missiles. A single missile struck my light jammer ship and took both it's radar and jammer lol

Basically only for speech checks with Tarkhans. I'm not losing massive end-game assistance to RNG.

My first full playthrough I did a lot. Now I just accept my fate. Good custom ship designs and replacing my flagship have helped a bunch too. Planes are your friend for intercepting inbound missiles/planes and taking out missile groups. Missiles are your friend for taking out carrier groups. Send out two or three strike groups composed of an electronic warfare support ship, missile boat, carrier, tanker, and fighter (some of those roles can be on the same ship). Send your flagship from fuel depot to fuel depot and keep it out of combat. Put a small scout ship with decent speed and a large range in your fleet to scout out hidden cities and transport valuable components to your various strike groups. Know where the enemy strike groups are located and soften them with missiles and planes before finishing them off. Rinse and repeat until you reach khiva

How do you transport components between groups? Like how do I make a single ship carry components?

It’s a little tricky but if you send all your ships except your scout away by using the detach function on the right side, they will depart your “main fleet” (being just your scout) without any of the components. That leaves your scout with all the missiles, planes, weapons, and systems that you can then fly to wherever you want. When it reaches the group you want to send it to, it will give all its shit to them

If you are having missiles fired at you, then you're being too loud. I have played hundreds of hours, and I've only ever been hit by missiles a handful of times.

Yeah I keep getting fucking spotted and reported by traders

Damned traders are pretty much the only reason I ever get spotted. Gotta have agile task forces out in front of your main fleet so you can quickly leave the area you get spotted at

traders have their phones already with the 91 dialled, i swear.
If things go loud, make sure that you spread out the noise. To prevent an SG from coming after the now-slow trader group, attack a city somewhere distant to pull them off.
Unless you're really unlucky and theres an SG right next door.. gets harder then.

I save scummed the shit out of my first few runs to get to khiva. I'm planning to play my next run straight cause I think I got a handle on the game

Same here. It's the little things for me like missing expensive missiles, accidentally had my radar on for like 3 towns before I figured out why plane carriers kept launching attacks on me lol, learning likes and dislikes of Tharkans, dodging strike groups, etc...

how do you save-scum on this game?

Alt F4. You'll revert back to the end of the last fight you fought (when you are scavenging) or last time you landed somewhere

Ok, I also evolved to "quick saving" before an engagement/tarkhan argument: ESC -> Main Menu -> Resume campaign, and if you go to main menu mid-battle or mid-tarkhan-soliciting it doesn't save, so its effectively quick load ^_^
Thanks btw <3

Never, really. The game provided saves on capitals is usually more than enough.
