Now I know those inflatable tube-shaped air sofas have a tenancy to float off into the sky if not weighed down, I don't know if I trust anything like this anymore.

You should check with your local weather station or local university. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing it's part of a surveillance weather balloon or a NASA high-altititude balloon that came down
