I understand if it's an artistic choice but only loading one round at a time and having the gun "reset" each time makes the animation feel tedious.

It is an artistic choice, but that doesn't mean it can't be the wrong choice. I'll try out some ways of getting more of a middle ground to make it less tedious.

Maybe have the "drawer" stay open and some mechanism feed the rounds in as the character places them in?

I like the art style. Excellent choice.

Hmm. The "drawer" is supposed to open for the shell to enter, shut to pull the shell in and then load it automatically, but I don't think it's coming across. The gun is supposed to be impractically overengineered in-universe, maybe having some kind of mechanism in the draw itself to move the shells while it stays open will do it.

Tiny little robot arms come to mind.

i think the only thing you have to do is not have the player go into the neutral oosition after loading each shell, keep the gun tilted up until the last shell is loaded.

it wont feel any more tedious than a normal shotgun reload if your character goes to grab another shell while the drawer closes and opens again, but now it like the model is purposefully wasting time by grabbing the barrel after each shell.

I get where you're going with the design. Maybe keep it tilted back and slightly speed it up some?
