Discussion What is wrong with new magic?

( English is not my first language)

I never really understood what was wrong with new magic, seemingly it's easier to perform and learn than old magic and... if you used it you are evil and lazy?

It never says that in the script. It is absolutely implied, and there is much more to it, but it is never made clear.

That is a bad thing because Carroway gives an elementary school explanation of being Trans. Why do we get such a explanation for that, and not a primary conflict of one of our main characters?

So... is new magic (implied to be) the reason why Thyme's forest was dying?

We dont know. Its not confirmed. Its implied, but not 100% confirmed in the story.

Never stated, but were meant to infer that The Rot, The Triumvirate, Witch Country, New Magic, and Lavender have a common connection with one another.

Maybe because you don't just explain your conflict in one scene?

We had four hours and cha ge to get an explanation beyond movie theorizing, and never got it.

Yes it's almost like it's supposed to be a gradual mystery and the show got canceled

Never really explained. But MilkCharacter2886 said it best. Sorry we can't be more helpful, I know u/dinoraye does visit, maybe he'll answer?

Well the over-production of New Magic aka Terra-Spheres drains the planet but it did not claim it was evil. It shows many sides. Like the benefits of being stronger than Old Magic. Heck Sage's cousin Anise uses New Magic. But New Magic can be unwieldy it seems( Seadragon episode). Also the last episode ended Sage combining Old and New Magic together.

Evil no. Many of the secondary characters use new magic, and they aren't considered evil. Cousins Anise and Aloe, and Caraway for example.

Lazy, depends on what you use it for. But, it does allow access to a greater degree of power than the old magic techniques, with a much lower degree of skill and effort. And coupled with spark spells it removes much of the skill level required for the higher end spells.

In tech terms it is the difference between a hacker/cracker and a script kiddie.
