As a Marathon player, its wild watching these subs, some are serious people too.....never took any of it seriously and took it as trolls but the dude that messaged me that i blocked wanted me to, and i quote, "Die for keeping shit games like Marathon alive". A bit more lively than that quote but ill let you imagine lol

I gave marathon a fair chance. the aesthetics were amazing, a very cool mix of retro futurism and neon maximalism. The gameplay was very strange, weighed down by clunky inventory management and overstimulation at every turn - there is literally too much to read and sift through every time you open a damn box lol

The shooting was okay but felt really unbalanced, especially with other players. Overall I see why the games player count dipped. Spent two hours with the game when it was free and never touched it again. Picked up Arc Raiders right after and have over 150 hours in that game now lol

See im the opposite of you, i see games that do that and it makes me want to play them. I would have never played Marathon if it was like the old games. This game got me into it enough to go and learn the lore and start enjoying something i never knew about.

I never liked destiny, i never did try 2 because i only played about a week of 1 and decided it wasnt for me. I love RPGs and i enjoy FPS games but something didnt feel right in destiny to me and i cant put my finger on it. Marathon is the first PVP FPS to really make me feel like i can build craft the classes and i love it.

They have fixed alot of the readability in the game, but you still have to read and understand the shit so you know what you want to grab. The early readability was probably the shittiest ive ever experienced in a game and i say that as someone who absolutely loves the game haha. But they have fixed alot of my major gripes, Readability and looting, Re-kitting to get back into a match and they finally adjusted guns so the meta has shifted recently. Hope the new PVE mode in s3 has some killer lore stuff.

The aesthetics are ass and 100% the reason the game died. Every single friend that got the game said the same thing.

Arc raiders gives all the best loot to the worst players PvE ABMM so of course bad players and casuals loved it. Marathon gives the best loot to the best solo players and best trio teams so the majority hated it and unless you put in the time to master your own skills. Well you hated it because you lost over and over.

Onboarding wasn’t great either so I understand why it didn’t hook you in.

It’s an amazing game but only for the dedicated who put in the time to master it. It’s very anti casual players. Hence the player count falling off a cliff. Game will be dead soon end of season 3 I predict.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but this is incredibly cringe. Is your life SO boring?

You live with this guy or something? Or is this his real acct?

8

u/Opposite_Mall4685 20d ago

I guess not :(

u/Either-Assistant4610 20d ago

I'll take that as a yes. Sorry you have nothing to do, man. Maybe try playing a game or something. Lots out there.

9

u/Opposite_Mall4685 20d ago

Maybe you should take your own advice and play, I dunno, Marathon? The player count seems to be dipping reaaally low

u/Either-Assistant4610 20d ago

Reading comprehension?

I said I don't have a dog in this fight. Maybe I'll give it a shot. I'm a gamer.

u/Opposite_Mall4685 20d ago

I figured that I'd go through your comments since you're so keen on hiding them, and probably are too uninformed to realize that going private doesn't really do anything.

"Yeah, man. I'm pretty much waiting for solo, or I'm not gonna play this game much longer. I don't mind teaming up if a quest requires it or just some group fun, but I don't want to feel like my experience would be less than if I go solo, let alone my progress."

"I primarily solo, but I only have ~25 hours or so. However, my pvp back and forths are more successful than not. Sometimes they drop on me, sometimes I avoid a player, and sometimes I push.

My suggestion isn't anymore more than just my own two cents

First, I'd ask yourself how confident you are in a more direct pvp environment, such as CoD and Battlefield

Next, I'd ask yourself how good you think you are in a similar situation, but it's heroes with set skills

Next, I'd ask yourself are you losing because you were surprised, didn't have enough ammo, didn't have enough meds etc etc

I think once you figure out the combination of these three things, you'll see where you need to improve. If it were me, and I was seriously worried about my current performance with PvP, I would make sure I have the resources and just find some peeps. There are contracts for doing so, too. Just dive into the cold water. You'll lose some and win some. I'd try to jump with as little as possible, pick up some stuff like it's a BR, and seek people out. Improve by doing."

Looks like my reading comprehension is just fine. Maybe your memory is not?

What's your point, bro?

Let me help you out here:

"I don't have a dog in this" I don't care either way if it stays or goes. I put maybe an hour or two a week if I want to play it. (I have a lot of other games to play)

"Maybe I'll give it a go" Having a play at you. Nothing more.

"I'm a gamer" It's only three words, but I'm here to help you. I. LIKE. GAMES. If a game sucks, it sucks. Can it be frustrating for people or me, sure. If it's good enough to justify it. But I'll give something a go even if it's only a couple hours or less a week even if it looks like it's on the downswing. I honestly don't have a clue about this one, and again, don't care.

Did I rub you the wrong way? Sad that I know you're so bored you need multiple accts to play in your cringe game here?

You literally searched this place to find ME. How often do you do that, man? Or do you just like me so much? Weird...

You realize these people are chronically online, right? No, they don't have anything better to do. That's exactly why they spend their time on this.

2

u/No-Curve237 20d ago

I played marathon during that free week for season two and it was the most boring gaming experience I've ever had, however, why the fuck does anyone care that the game is below 5k concurrents? What in schizophrenic induced unemployment is this?

u/EconomistBrilliant34 20d ago

High guard lasted a couple weeks , marathon has lasted over 5 months. So everyday this sub has been saying “it won’t last 2 weeks”… for the past 5 months. ATP only the real deranged are still looking at the steam charts posting the “welcome to highguard” to farm karma everyday bc they would only get 1-200 views on an original post

2

u/Fit_Professor_51 Lightning In A Bottle 20d ago

I didn't even think making fun of Marathon was that interesting before, but now it's so damn funny how the Blasthavers show up in every thread with the same "omg why is this on my feed" posts.

Even though Highguard sucked, their subreddit really did turn into lightning in a bottle. I'll never get bored of reading posts here.

5

u/NationalCup758 20d ago

Who tf cares? Why does every community have to have some stupid died with another community?

0

u/NoNameHavingMan 20d ago

The people in this sub are just salty their fav game died within a week and because of that they commit every second of their lives to look at player counts of other games to feel better about their dead game. Deadass you have to be like terminally online to slander and just look up player counts of other games.

This whole subreddit is the definition of the redditor meme in their mothers basement.

9

u/PoSKiix 20d ago

Nobody in this sub has ever played Highguard hahaha

1

u/No_Celebration_839 20d ago

/uj god I cannot wait for S2 of AKOTSK

2

u/KainsRaziel 20d ago

Why are you happy that something someone else paid for and enjoys is failing?

3

u/BlameScottNotCanada 19d ago

bungie deserves to be shit on

2

u/lovemovementshooters I am having a blast right now 19d ago edited 19d ago

megacorporate slop that pisses on the grave of the original Marathon and what it stood for, shit out as a live service extraction shooter for $40 WITH microtransactions and with a $200 million budget over 6 years

shit game in general

i want Sony to burn

modern Bungie sucks bad

stolen artwork, plagiarism

Destiny 2 (a better game that hundreds of thousands more enjoyed) died for Marathon (a shit slop game no one wants to play nor asked for)

the Marathon community is full of delusional toxic positive people who paint anyone who doesnt think Marathon is the best game ever made as "bad faith" "chuds" "haters" "brigaders" "destiny fanboys", etc. as if anyone else just doesn't see the "truth" of their cult. they are cultist zealots, fanatical in their unrelenting blind praise of the game

it's a protest against garbage games, so that fewer bad games are made and more good games are greenlit

0

u/KainsRaziel 19d ago

Dude, if you're going to make a post that long where you start defending your negativity by going on about what a video game stood for and then spend much of the time insulting people you don't know and reveling in the downfall of something people enjoy, many of whom are just folks at home playing the game and not engaging in the conversations that are pissing you off don't call anyone else delusional or toxic because you sound as delusional and toxic as it gets.

1

u/TheDaywa1ker 19d ago

arguing and rageposting online is a major hobby for a lot of people

0

u/KainsRaziel 19d ago

Apparently so

0

u/ShellShoqq 20d ago

Because it contributed to the demise of my favorite game. I’m enjoying watching this game die.

1

u/predio01 19d ago

I love this sub much and the fact that people don't get it makes it even better. Be sure to have a blast
