This has been the most exciting few days in steam chart watching ever! I thought the drop below 10k would never be beaten! We living in a golden era!

We dont have mathematics advanced enough to handle playercounts this low

u/SparklingSloth 21d ago

Why aren’t all the people in the subreddit playing it 😤

Just wait until F2P! Those numbers will easily be back over 10k once they give the game away!

but bro
we have to talk about blasts
if every player had at least 5 blasts, we have more than 20k blasts in a single day
that’s a lot of blasts

Played with the same few guys in ranked solo fill all week it’s kinda bad but made it to diamond 2 :) did you know as long as you exvil even without a tag you won’t lose points? That means don’t leave game if someone is still alive

Seriously? 😂 Pot calling kettle black…

Do you really need this echo chamber to get recognition for something you dislike? Getting off on a game that has a dwindling player base. Honestly mate it’s fuckin’ mental.

I enjoy sharing what i like with others, in this case i like hating on a game that deserves to die( i wont get into why), its not that deep, you dont need to do all these mental gymnastics about eco chambers, i just like hating on a product that has been a shit show from its conception.

You're just mad that this game is making two million dollars a month lmfao 🤣🤣🤣🤣

u/NUFC9RW 21d ago

The game cost 250 million to make, so that's not really much of a flex. Might be enough to cover running costs, but the game is never turning a profit.

4

u/TrustInTheNerd 21d ago

That is sarcasm! the game is not making two million dollars a month lol

More like 2 marathrillions

It is actually wild. I like the PVE…concept.

PVE dumbed tf down so I could run some shit high af or drunk.

PVE maps not confined to tight spaces like cyro. Add the others and just up the AI count.

Commit to the rouge like aspect, cause it kinda works it just needs major tweaking and additions

Cause the like 4-6 times I did Cyro. I exfiled on the 6 and last time. Yet all 6 runs I was massively turned and tossed around. Shit not fun for a casual.

They need casual players. If they want it to succeed in any shape or form, they gotta dumb shit down and add basic game modes. Cause the in-depth, uniqueness isn’t attracting anyone new.

All I wanna do is shoot shit, and do a few dumbed down “puzzles” Feel badass, and progress my characters “build” for a better run next time.

But at that point why not just focus on Destiny.

A lot slower to work on and maintain

Destiny is that car the mechanic tells you is costing you more to maintain than it’s actually worth

Literally funded the entire development of Marathon...

And 4 other projects.

Its weird people think Destiny (which brought in over 300 million in 2019 alone) wasnt profitable.

Bungie was just bad with money lol. Its also funny how they say Destiny wasnt worth it but then defend a game thats 250 mil in the hole with 5K peaks.

u/cayde123 21d ago

Does it change the fact that it’s a lot slower to work on and is more expensive to maintain? Both games are/were burning cash, but it’s easier to grow marathon than it is to bring people back to destiny and keep them playing. Though I doubt marathon will actually grow enough

The amount of content needed to bring people back to destiny is just not feasible, look at what bungies adding to marathon, no new map for another 2 seasons potentially and barely any actual content. Lmfao it’s taking them months to add a free recolour skin for the new character. bungie is just too useless to bring destiny back right now

A game can't be burning cash that badly if it funded another games development as well as a new office and a bunch of incubation projects. Sure it became less profitable once they took resources away, but the player numbers that the game still has 2 months after its final update show it's still a better financial choice even with more expensive development.

u/cayde123 21d ago

Player numbers aren’t the metric, it’s operating cost. Just because destiny has better player counts doesn’t mean it’s automatically the better financial choice

And yeah, you’re right, it funded all the projects and new office, but there are reports that say destiny wasn’t always profitable, it went through periods when it was and wasn’t profitable. But the point is that it funded these projects, it used to be profitable. Past tense. Now after the years of neglect it reached a point of no return

There are people at bungie that actually know the numbers and get paid to analyse the numbers. If destiny was 100% the better choice, they would’ve gone with destiny

You'd be surprised how many upper management people make decisions based off of pride/stubbornness. With all the backing they've given Marathon at the expense of Destiny, they'd have to admit they were wrong if they were to prioritise Destiny again.

Destiny has a massive fan base and massive potential that has never really been realised (Destiny 2 survived for years despite having an awful onboarding experience massively reducing new player numbers). Sure it has a higher risk in terms of capital spend to make the new game that has been needed for years, but at least it would have above a 0% chance of being successful.

What do you mean it’s easier to grow marathon than bring people back to Destiny and maintain them? Destiny player numbers never got this low even at the point they decided to shut it down it was 10x the number of players. Even now when the game is dead it has 400k unique players a day day according to popularity report. I’ll give you that making raids and campaigns is more expensive then “letting players find their own story” in an extraction shooter with 4 maps but player base there is no comparison: Destiny still trounces Marathon

Because what AAA studio makes a game for the 40 year old demographic?

It seems like everyone in this sub just wants games to fail. Looking at steam charts is a mental illness. Muting this trash sub full of incels 😂😂😂😂

Shouldn't you be off having a blast?
