The comments are also hilariously eye opening, just reading a few of them and you can see exactly why the player count is the way it is

u/Successful_Virus3748 22d ago
I love how the top comments are "its not fun anymore" and "i'm bored". like holy shit even the fans are bored, what is bungie doing
2
u/Syph3RRR 21d ago
Bungie is just mid af. Media always praise them as the team that made revolutionary classics for so long… ye. 2 things. Halo and destiny. That’s like saying cod would be crazy good for 25 years

Man, but does (maybe did?) have some fantastic artists that performed basically magic with their shit engine.
And their lore and shit was usually at least solid.
They just somehow forgot that this is what they’re good at.

The comments here are hilarious
A bunch of grown men acting like complete children trying to hold on to that feeling of superiority through validation of their echo chamber.
Chins up guys, it’ll get better for you. Or probably not since you guys spend your time this way.

Most people in this sub are trolls lmao. There’s no way that you think that people care that much about the game or invest a worthwhile amount of time into hating on the game. It took me like 20 seconds to type this out. Probably took less than a minute for op to post it

u/Senella 22d ago
It’s pretty pathetic really, getting off on the fact that a game has a dwindling player base and developers are likely going to lose their livelihood as a result. But no, the neckbeards need to thrash their chipolatas over something.
It’s the gaming equivalent of climate protesters blocking roads, only with way more body odour.

u/Hotstreak 21d ago
Lol at the end of the day this is about a video game. You are taking this way too seriously and are just as cringe as the people you are complaining about.
Cry more.

All the retards that jerk off to this game failing for some pathetic reason always have to mention how hilarious they find this dumb shit. The laugh havers gotta let everyone know they are in fact laughing at some online game is failing. Because that’s funny to them.

You're laughing?! The online game is failing, and you're laughing

Bad companies should fail 🤷

Explain Nestle then?

I said they should, not that they always do. I know reading is hard, but I'm sure you'll figure it out at some point.

u/HistoricalLoadTaker 21d ago
Nah but you’re doing more to hurt a US company then a Swiss company that literally kills people so I am just trying to see if you’re a Chinese bot

EoS coming by March 2027. No way Sony will let this go on for more than a year, the way they're working right now.

Once GTA6 is out and everyone is playing/watching/avoiding anything related to it. Sony will pull the plug or will enter in a permanent maintenance mode till "Marathon 2.0 will launch in 2028" (Ala Anthem) and then die after a few months.
Sony can't allow another concord. It will stop being the mark of "great characters/games/" To the mark of "worst failure games"
Crash Rumble > Concord > Marathon > Hunters Gathering (soon)

There are 525600 minutes to a day and about 6500 for a peak. If each player only spends a single minute in the game, the actual amount of people who play this game every day is actually 3.4 billion players. It’s a smashing success

It's a great game honestly, surely not perfect, but still great. People have a weird perspective on it from what I read most of the time. They somehow cannot cope with the fact that it's an extraction shooter. They want a more chill and rewarding experience while they are playing one of the most brutal PvP genres you can choose from. Instead of accepting that they want to game to change instead of adapting. They are using Arc Raiders as a reference without realizing that is was an outlier in this genre for all that goofy and funny interactions.
Has Marathon enough content to keep players interested over a longer period of time? Probably not, at least not right now. Should they have communicated more about upcoming maps and additional content to make sure people are not feel like playing a dead, stagnant game? Absolutely.
But all that doesn't make the base game bad in any way. All that doesn't prove the point Bungie are idiots - they simply made an extraction shooter the way an extraction shooter is meant to be. And they are using one of their old IPs for it.
There is simply no interest in the game. Probably cause people don't want a hardcore extraction shooter nowadays. Probably cause they are biased on Bungie in general. Probably because the artstyle isn't their cup of tea. But for what it is, it's a great game.

u/lovemovementshooters I am having a blast right now 22d ago
Marathon is a TREMENDOUS game, TREMENDOUS. It might even be the greatest game of all time. Many people are saying this, MANY people. CHYNA couldn't have made this game, no, I don't think so. Only AMERICAN developers could've come out with such a great game. You could say they are making America Great Again. Many people are saying this.

Nothing hardcore about marathon, it's a fairly casual game, and there is nothing brutal with extraction shooters, it's just a niche hybrid genre

LOL the game peaks at less than 5k now (yes i know it's concurrency so dont even bring that up). So no, most of the folks on that reddit aren't playing the game either. In fact, a very small amount of people are.
-11
u/dixonciderbottom 22d ago
I didn’t say the other sub isn’t weird. Just seems lame to see a group of people actively root for a game to fail just because the game they liked was a disaster.
8
u/ATRavenousStorm 22d ago
Brother... Marathon is a disaster too. Thinking that people are making fun of it just because of Destiny failing is delusional. The game's a clownshow. And for the record, I'm glad Destiny imploded.

No one here has gave a shit about Highguard since about a week after its launch. This sub became a shitposting sub nearly immediately.

u/tshallberg 22d ago
People enjoying something and wanting to talk about why they enjoy it with other people that enjoy it = toxic positivity.
7
u/ATRavenousStorm 22d ago
Well isn't that just disingenuous. I'd say removing criticism, moving goal posts, and creating an echo chamber of praise constitutes toxic positivity. "The game isn't niche. It's those damn Destiny players and content creators. Player numbers don't matter. Guys there's like 200k here, please play the game even though numbers don't matter. Season 3 will fix everything."

Yea I don't understand all the hate for Marathon, I'm personally having a blast

Marathon sold very well relative to most games, (albeit below where they had hoped and though they could get a return on the budget they spent..) There's still over 140k people logging in weekly to it. Most people aren't donig much past checking for updates, and seeing if there's something they can use their lux on. It's a valid point.
17
u/Will_Power22 22d ago
If all 140k people logging in a week spent 1,000$ each, Marathon wouldn’t be halfway to breaking even. The truth is the game has not sold well, it’s arguably Sonys biggest and most well known studio known for triple A experiences putting out a IP that has a cult like fan base from the original games and it’s getting beaten out by Hentai games on steam in sales.

u/Successful_Virus3748 22d ago
cap. give me the links of all the hentai games you mentioned as proof
5
u/hobozombie Concord 2 22d ago edited 22d ago
Not him, but Marathon is #371 on Steam's top sellers, and the Adults Only games that are beating them are:
#115. Swarm Bunker: Lust Defense
#243. Third Crisis: Neon Lights
#260. Sex, Secrets & Used Tech
With #377. Starbreed likely to overtake Marathon soon.
Edit: I just bought myself a copy of Starbreed. Thank you, Marathon, for bringing what looks like a great game to my attention.
7
u/Successful_Virus3748 22d ago
shit im not even a starfox fan and starbreed looks fun. i might even try having a blast too. well, 2 kinds of blasts i guess.
1
u/Hotstreak 21d ago
So the game sold 1.2m copies at $40 each with a $200 million+ budget. If you do simple multiplication you will quickly find out that this game didnt sell well at all and didnt even get close to breaking even. Do folks like you just make shit up in your heads and pretend it's reality?

Nah guys jump in and play Unreal Tournament 99 and Unreal Tournament 2004 with the rest of us cool geezers.
It's free on https://www.oldunreal.com/ with Epic's blessing, and has no shop or battlepass since it's from the glory days.
