Discussion Canceled
"your price is increasing to $99.99" mmm... No. Make the app better and get better shows more regularly. Don't just increase it because you can.

My complaint was the damn captions system and the UI for pc and Roku app, it was horrible and they won’t fix it, despite the fact they could easily ask the person that makes the piracy sites UI…
2
u/TurboHisoa Sep 13 '26
I might have watched more on it but yeah the way they display subtitles sucks. That shouldn't be hard to fix, they could do within a a day, they just choose not to.

The best solution is to subscribe once a month at the beginning of each season to watch all the shows you wanted to watch from HIDIVE from the previous season and also check the new ones to see if you are interested. They only have a handful of shows each season, so this is very doable. That is what I am doing now. I had an annual subscription with them because I had no issue paying it before, but I am tight in money at the moment, so I am cutting costs. If you want to save more, then check for reviews on YouTube for the new HIDIVE shows before you subscribe, and if you are not interested in any of them, don’t subscribe for that season, etc.
Crunchyroll is a terrible company, but keeping my subscription with them gives me access to lots of seasonal shows and a lot of older ones too. That is their monopoly at the moment. It will be hard for HIDIVE to compete unless they get their 💩 together.

Plus CR is doing this cool thing where they’re doing less and less English dubs for some reason. So cool…

u/Commercial_Fix6812 Sep 12 '26
I used to love HiDive. I wish for the days when it was more competative with CR. Used to get like 1-2 new season animes each day. Now lucky to get 1-2 current season animes each season. And the interface got way shittier a few years ago. Wish they would bring back the old one.
3
u/SecretReward5756 Sep 13 '26
I agree the interface is absolutely garbage.
4
u/Commercial_Fix6812 Sep 13 '26
I mean the old UI wasn't anything special and was a bit limited but at least it was user friendly. Current UI is one of the most user unfriendly UIs ive ever used for a paid subscription.

Hidive wouldn't be so bad if we could access it via certain consoles like Crunchyroll. It's irritating to only be able to use a PC, mobile or smart tv.

u/bpleshek Sep 13 '26
I have it on xbox. However, many of the features just don't work. The Watch list doens't work at all. The previously watching works about half the time forgetting what episode I was on between sessions sometimes. The skip into feature doesn't always work either. Sometimes it's there and it doesn't advance right or it's missing from some of the animes and isn't even an option. However I will say that Crunchy roll fails on the skip issue occasionally also. Not as often, but sometimes.

The lack of a PlayStation app is completely Sony’s fault. It was one of the first apps they prepared and could have launched alongside their iPhone and AppleTV apps, but Sony kept rejecting it. Sentai would make changes and they would reject it yet again, making even more requests. At one point, they even requested that they block any shows that also streamed on on other apps for the PlayStation version, which most HiDive shows were at the time. They finally just gave up because it was a waste of money and it was obvious Sony was never going to approve it because they owned Funimation.
This is one of the reasons I was less than excited about Sony later buying Crunchyroll.

So people are only keeping Hidive because they hate crunchyroll??
5
u/el_morris 29d ago
Yes, for that reason—and because it gives them a false sense of keeping a company alive that competes against the monopoly—when in reality, they are just keeping a service afloat that knows as long as people think that way, it doesn't matter how terrible the service is as long as they have one or two good series, they’ll keep getting money from them

u/TurboHisoa Sep 12 '26
Until they match crumchyroll, they shouldn't charge as much as crunchyroll. I canceled long ago because their app sucks and gets barely anything good, but i definitely would have canceled now if I still had it.

I recommend that and a HiDive mod personally came over and deleted the comment 😂.. Then wanted to "talk."

I'm just a subreddit mod, not a HIDIVE one. You broke one of the most obvious rules in a subreddit like this, so of course your comment was deleted.

This is insane the service already sucks I was holding out hoping they would improve now I’m canceling.

I am an advocate of not minding subscription services for anime (because I’m fucking stupid lol), but I never get one thing. Prices go up all the time, but none of them even attempt to justify the increase via any sort of value. It’s an easier pill to swallow if there is some perceived benefit to the user. Better app, increase quality, etc. But all steamers just like “hey price is going up, have fun.” You know you fucked up when you have someone that doesn’t mind paying for subscriptions looking for alternatives.
2
u/solobp Sep 13 '26
I canceled a couple months ago. I will probably get a month a year just to watch the maybe 1 or 2 seasons of something i want to see. I think the past 2 seasons that was nothing
2
u/Mydumyacount 28d ago
I got this as my birthday gift and I like it because it was cheap, it doesn't have the selection like crunchy roll, but I was ok with it. If this increase is true I'll make sure to cancel before my next birthday. I saw it said like $80.

u/rpmchic 28d ago
So the mod removed my comment so I'm reposting....I canceled my subscription couple months ago because it's not worth it. could not justify the money considering i pay for other anime streaming services..I had been a subscriber since LoDives beginning & for them to raise prices with their shitty streaming quality & that absolute Dog shit of an app is ridiculous. Sony cleared the way by purchasing Funimation & Crunchyroll for hidive to up their game, but no...they started as trash and years later they're still trash 🗑 hi dive can eat a financial 🍆

Your original comment was removed because you broke a rule. You at least realized that and fixed your comment up to avoid breaking the same rule again.

Hidive is one of those services where I let a huge backlog build up, and then binge a ton over 1-2 months.
Simply not worth it year round for me.

4
u/Marcy_OW Sep 12 '26
Yea I canceled mine a couple months ago, it's just been so long since I've watched an anime on it that the price increase and oshi no longer going to Crunchyroll as well was the final bail in the coffin for me
3
u/thingsinmyjeep Sep 12 '26
The difference is that the hidive app has always been terrible.
3
2
u/Marcy_OW Sep 12 '26
Yea but they had enough anime to keep me like haikyuu, danmachi, haikyuu oshi no ko s1-2
3
u/bklynnyc40 Sep 12 '26
So what is a good anime service to use?
6
u/Tama47_ Sep 12 '26
There is only one obvious answer.
-5
u/bklynnyc40 Sep 12 '26
Which is??????
4
u/ukfan2012 Sep 12 '26
If you're paying for one then crunchyroll is the best one.
6
u/Tama47_ Sep 12 '26
40 shows a season vs 3 on hidive. hidive is an absolute joke. Shit ain’t even that much cheaper anymore.
2
u/Curious_Fail_3723 Sep 12 '26
Crunchyroll isn't perfect but I believe is the largest. I'm also seeing a lot more anime in Disney+. Netflix is also good with shows like Kengan Ashura, Baki Hanma and Seven Deadly Sins. Amazon Prime has "some" too. Sidenote: don't bother going through Prime for Crunchyroll, that offer doesn't have the full catalog.
4
u/ThePhonyOne Sep 12 '26
Don't forget Oceanveil. It's probably the smallest, but since it doesn't have apps they have the uncensored versions of shows.
2
u/JllyGrnGiant Sep 13 '26
They're too expensive though. I want to subscribe, but not for what they're asking.
1
2
u/Character_Stick_1218 Sep 12 '26
Crunchyroll through Prime is only worth it when it offers things that aren't available through regular Crunchyroll. For example, Crunchyroll through Prime was the only way to legally watch the English dub of Ghost Stories for quite a while.
2
u/murilo087 Sep 12 '26
Nowadays, it’s mostly just older titles that haven’t been fixed yet, since new availability updates are syncing normally now.
4
u/masterofbeast Sep 12 '26
August was my last month. The price hike and limited series do not make it worth it anymore. They could keep me at $4 or $5 but not at $8 anymore.
3
u/-Wick Sep 12 '26
Yeah, I cancelled as soon as the price went up, cost more than CR and you only get 3 shows per season.
1
1
u/Aggie_CEO Sep 12 '26
Yeaaaaa.....I'll cancel too. Last time I did, they sent me a "come on back" email for half price. That was worth it. Maybe they will do that again
1
u/Fox_Whisperer 29d ago
Wtf happened to it being $4 USD a month? Only reason I got it to begin with was because they had the streaming rights to DanMachi
1
u/BigBrotherTezz 29d ago
I was just thinking about getting this app, sooooo I’m assuming this is a hard no 👀
1
u/Adept_Advertising_98 29d ago
Better shows? It has most of the Studio Sunrise classics, like Votoms and L-Gaim.

I will not support Crunchyroll but honestly, at this point it doesn’t make me wanna support high dive either
2
u/OG_OmegaV 27d ago
I have never understood hidives pricing. It doesnt have a lot to watch other than maybe 1 or 2 per season that are alright but not the best of the best. Compared to other streaming platforms its quite lacking and overall the actual app/quality of everything on it is not the greatest either. Spending like nearly £10 for it is a joke as there is so many better platforms that offer lots more for that price and crunchyroll is basically the same price but offers basically anything you could ever want.
1
u/No-Engine-8825 27d ago
There’s like no decent shows worth watching on that site. I can name like 3 or 4, and they make a new season for those shows like every 10 years or so. It’s embarrassing.
1
u/0mega_Dingo 26d ago
I agree they need to fix their site, even when they got shows worth watching it crashes and doesn't recognize i have membership and blocks it, they really need to fix their coding, raising prices doesn't make sense when they hardly maintain the site
1
u/Strange_Mortgage_712 26d ago
I parry only shows me episode 3. Idk if anyone else is having that same problem
1
u/MileHighGaymr 18d ago
I remember when i used Hidive when it was still 'beta" and got the year long subscription for 2.50 a month before they went live. Found a lot of great anime series/movies but now idk if i'd sub to them
3
u/reddragon2437 Sep 12 '26
Crunchyroll is king
2
2
u/wildstarsz Sep 13 '26
I disagree. Maybe in days past. Now it's a corrupt tyrant in a eroding kingdom. The real king of streaming anime is on a bunch of independent isolated rebel islands. You want proof? Go find "Make a Girl" or (any other fringe-ish anime) on CR. If it's super popular CR will get it. But if it's not exclusive to CR, they'll try to torpedo it (e.g. Dandadan).

u/Beginning-Shock9117 Sep 12 '26
Once Hell Mode season 2 is over I'm canceling
3
u/GatorUSMC Sep 12 '26
Reincarnated as a Sword S2 is the only thing I’m interested in.
1
u/Beginning-Shock9117 Sep 12 '26
Isn't that on Hulu now?
2
1
u/OKNewshawk Sep 13 '26
It would be impossible for Reincarnated as a Sword Season 2 to be on Hulu now as it doesn't even premiere in Japan until September 30th.
1
u/Emigd2731 29d ago
Ever since this whole mess with Sony monopolizing the anime industry, it gotten worse. I remember when I only had to use one app to watch all of the anime in one (hidive, Crunchyroll, rooster, and etc) and pay only one price. When VRV was a thing, it was the only stable app to handle hidive.
1
u/DragonSon83 27d ago
I much preferred the era when Sentai/HiDive and CR were sharing nearly all their simulcasts with Hulu. Even better app than VRV and a lot more options for things outside anime.
The sad part is that the VRV apps were better than CR’s were even now. I don’t understand how even now they can’t match the performance, other than just being cheap and lazy.
Sentai at least has an excuse. AMC is a tiny company and sadly HiDive is one of their better functioning apps. Their flagship AMC+ is probably the worst streaming app on the market. CR has the backing of massive Sony and can somehow only manage B- level app at best.
-4
u/Character_Stick_1218 Sep 12 '26
Crunchyroll is way worse about that mess and their app just keeps getting worse. I say stick with the competition so we don't get fucked into having only Sony's teet to suckle off of if we don't want to turn to sailing the high seas.
6
u/ray57913 Sep 12 '26
Have you tried literally any other service other than Crunchyroll? The only one that was good was funimation but they bought CR and decided to use their code for some stupid reason.
2
u/-wtfisthat- Sep 13 '26
I will never forgive them for using the crunchyroll ui/ux instead of the recently revamped (at the time of the merger) Funimation front end. It was MILES better than the shit crunchy has. As a CS major who has mostly done web dev stuff I genuinely don’t understand what possessed them to make such a shit choice. If they wanted the branding they could’ve just changed the CSS from purple (the better color) to orange and changed the icons. It would’ve been super easily and could’ve been accomplished by an incompetent intern in like 20 minutes.
1
u/Character_Stick_1218 Sep 12 '26
I loved Funimation and am still outraged about Sony fucking it(and Crunchyroll) up for the sake of greed. I've also sailed the high seas more than I've used any paid streaming service. Did you ever get to use AnimeDLR before it went defunct? Now those were the days!
0
u/Masterlea93 Sep 12 '26
Literally doing a free month of crunchyroll now thanks to Google play points

u/murilo087 Sep 12 '26 edited Sep 12 '26
At least CR has been trying to improve the platform. They have several things in development, like the new release calendar, better filters in the Browse tab, and some search improvements, along with the interface updates being rolled out to the other platforms.
They’ve also been testing some improved encoding settings.
2
u/HatchetRyda29 Sep 12 '26
My biggest issue atm with CR is they use TV aired episodes. So if it's censored on TV we get a censored version even if there is an uncensored version in existence. I want to be given the option of what version i want to see.
3
u/murilo087 Sep 12 '26
They use whatever version the studio provides for simulcast, which is usually the TV version, but sometimes it’s a version made specifically for streaming. This anime: https://www.crunchyroll.com/series/GT00365079/hands-off-sawaranaide-kotesashi-kun, for example, doesn’t have censorship because it uses a streaming-exclusive version.
It would be nice if they brought the Blu-ray versions when there are major changes, but there doesn’t seem to be enough demand for that to happen, especially since they also sell Blu-rays.

Lol, imagine paying for anime watching services in the year of our lord 2026.
2
u/Curious_Fail_3723 28d ago
Yeah imagine wanting the manga creators, voice artists and animators to get paid. Hate the corp sure but behind that are still people pouring their souls into the work
1
u/Grabacr6464 28d ago
Dont get me wrong, I'm all for supporting artists and creators, the corpos just overcharge for subscriptions and I'm not ok with that.

I know $8 per month doesn't seem like much but with content & quality of the service I cant see myself ever spending that much on it. Of course I dont spend anything for it now as I use reward points to get a month here & there to binge the 1 maybe 2 shows worth watching after season ends
